I'll just start this story off for Wendy as she is now the proud 'mum' to these adorable Woodies.

Tweaty was the lucky baby that Wendy rescued and successfully raised by hand. He, as they always do, stole her heart and so the decision was made not to release him into the wild as he had become far too tame to adapt.

Wendy arranged to have an aviary built in her garden so Tweaty could live safely but still be outdoors.

I too had found a fledgling Woodie at the poor sanctuary I visit, and ...

Hiya,

I joined this forum a while ago when I rescued an unfledged pigeon which had landed in my garden, some of you may remember...

I am now very concerned about the pigeons in my area, I have found 2 dead ones very recently and yesterday caught a sick one, put it in a box kept it warm but within the hour it had passed away....today I can see one having difficulty flying on to my bird table....I think poison can be ruled out as all others birds seem fit and healthly...can I also add that ...

Well our fledgling Woody is eating well and very wild - desperate to get out in fact.

We have a reasonable spell of weather forecast here starting tomorrow, so we are thinking of setting him free in the morning. There are several small groups of young woodies around, so we hope he will join them and have some company whilst he adjusts to being in the big wild world. Obviously once he's gone we probably won't be able to recognise him from the others any more. We did think of putting one ...

When should a woody fledgling start feeding itself?

I have a fledgling woodpigeon, which I rescued from our pond last week. He seems to be about 18-20 days old, judging by photos I have found online. He is fully feathered, no sign of any yellow fluff left, and I think he is almost strong enough to fly. I have been feeding him small grained pigeon food twice a day, and giving water by syringe. He has a dish of food in his box all the time, and water bowl, but he is not showing any sign of helping himself yet. He is also getting very strong ...

Would you believe it? I never find poorly birds and the minute I get an aviary, one turns up! It was feeding beside the aviary where I'd deliberately put some seed to get the wild birds to come down and peck.

I thought it seemed tame, as it didn't really move much when we went up to it. It ran across the garden, just taking flight about 6" from the ground (two flaps at most) and then landing again. It kept trying to get through the wire we have around our garden (redline horse netting) ...

Hi everyone

As you probably know, Janet is going to give Tweaty a friend and I was wondering about the best way to introduce them.

I know lots about dogs in this regard, but nothing about pigeons.

Also Tweaty has been a house bird since he was found and I don't know how to acclimatise him back outside? He cannot stay on the back of my office chair for ever!

Hope you can help.
