Hey Guys,

For me, this day has started with both happy and sad news. Good news is that Mito and Sia have laid their first egg sometime last night Smile The egg looks so damn cute. This is the first time they both are having an egg. But I have a problem in getting more birds Very sad Since Mito and Sia are indoor birds, I have kept them in one of the rooms (or, may be they have kept in in the reaming space). The house that stay is small and I would not be able to add more birds as of now. Also, I do get birds that are rescued. I don't have the plastic eggs with me right now, they are not available in India. Does anyone know what is the best alternative way to prevent these eggs from hatching Very sad? I am feeling terrible to do this, but I wish I lived in a better place. I do not want make Mito and Sia depressed by snatching away the egg without even giving them a dummy eggs. Please suggest me on what I can do.

Thanks.

You can boil the egg and give them that, oil or shake the egg very well and give it back to them, poke a small hole in both ends of the egg and blow out the contents and fill it with something like sand or plaster, craft them an egg out of clay, or if they're big enough you can get them a ping pong ball to sit on.

Luna Wolf has given some good suggestions, Dev. Smile

I practice 'pigeon birth control' and I can say from watching my guys, they don't seem at all traumatized not having the eggs hatch.
I hope this helps to ease your mind a little. Wink

Dev...I can't seem to find your address, so email it to me and I will send you some wooden eggs.
In the mean time, Luna has given you some good advise. Any thing the shape of their egg will work too. You can even paint it white.

Thanks Luna, Cindy and Charis. I will go around for try to find a ball which of the similar size and try using it. if nothing works, I will boil those eggs and give it back to them. I still wish I lived in a better place.

Charis, yeah I will follow it up with you. Our last plan didn't go well because of change in my travel Very sad

You might want to rethink the shaking the egg method. Hmmm

I tried that a couple years ago, I shook the heck out of a couple of eggs because we ran out of dummy eggs, put the eggs back under the hens AND the darn eggs hatched right on schedule! I did this for about 5 hens, shaking the eggs for at least a couple of minutes each! Serious EEK!! Thank goodness only two hatched Laughing

Yeah, the egg shaking isn't 100%. That's the first method I tried when we first got our doves. After one of the eggs hatched I started combining it with oiling and candling to make sure the egg was scrambled on the inside.
