The using of kitchen roll/towel as bedding for chicks...

Over the years, i have reared a few babies almost from hatching, (never by choice, only in cases of emergency) but I hope you dont mind me mentioning my findings with paper kitchen towelling. (I really, reeeeeally hope Im not going to offend anyone by saying this, as its the last thing Id want to do )

Anyway, what happened was, whilst raising one very young and tiny cockatiel chick, I had a rather heavy cold. (I always made sure my hands were well scrubbed and that i was masked during this time)
But, colds being what they are, I had a nose like a garden sprinkler on drizzle mode However, I didnt worry because i had rolls and rolls of lovely 'soft' kitchen towel to constantly blow my snozzle on. Within a couple of days I looked like Rudolph. With a scabby hooter. I realised the culprit for my glow-in-the-dark facial appendage was in fact the kitchen towelling. As soon as I treated myself to a box of smooth, soft paper handkerchiefs, all eased! Now I had noticed that sometimes, the tiny chicks feet and elbows looked a tad pinker than they should, and I immediately STOPPED using the kitchen towelling and used the soft tissue paper instead. Baby did seem to enjoys snuggling down more into the tissue, and no more pinker-than-they-should-be feet or elbows.
I never used kitchen towel again, and never will. Just soft, unscented, untreated tissue for bedding or resting on when the need arose.
So, I would always recommend the tissue, cos my nose knows!
