What kind of abnormalities do you observe with your pijjies?

We have one pigeon who is called Quackquack - can you guess why? He makes noises not like a pigeon but really like a duck - maybe he grew up near the ducks and he wants to be a duck?????

Another one is a real freak: he is called Goosy - can you guess why? He has a WEBBING between his toes - the photo I could catch are not the best but you can see it....





One day there will be pijjies who are going back to the water....

It's great to hear from you. I know you're very busy, so I always enjoy seeing a new post from you. We miss you LOTS.

I've not heard a pigeon making a 'quacking' sound. I'll bet it sounds funny.

I have heard of a pigeon showing up now and then with a web foot, or partial web foot.

I guess those mutations happen occasionally, but probably most of them go unnoticed.

It's interesting though.

I haven't come across anything really significant, but some of the pigeons I've heard make sounds that differ from the majority. Come to think about it, I've heard a deep kwork-kwork sound, and I wonder if it's like the one you described for Quackquack.
Thinking how different the call of a collared dove or a wood pigeon can be, I wondered if it was a member of a wild species (I'm told there are 2 in Portugal, but not in the towns) or a cross-breed.

His was 'coo-wakka-wakka'/ 'coo-wakka-wakka'. It's a sound I've never heard since, and will never forget it.
Shi and I loved to sit and listen to him.

I think I put a couple to many 'k's' in the 'waka'.

I've heard a few pigeons that quack or honk like ducks and geese! I love hearing them since it's so different and funny.
I've never seen webbing before. Very interesting. I'm sure there are five-toed pigeons out there and other mutations.

Btw - our Charly coos with such a hoarse and croaky voice that I am sure he is smoking cigars and drinks quite a lot of stuff too much... should the name be an omen????!!!!

I hadn't thought about that, but did you name him Charly as in 'Champagne Charlie'?
Well, if you're in doubt, take away his cigars and his booze and tell him to stay away from the ladies... and if he continues to coo with a croaky voice, you may just be listening to the first recorded case of a pigeon cursing...
