| Wennity – January 2006 – January 2009 Wennity's parents chose an unsuitable site for their nest on River Green, a hollow bowl in the fork of a tree that tended to get flooded out if there was heavy rain. Her sister, Serenity, had been washed out and brought to us some months earlier. Like Wennity she had been found at the foot of the tree, trying unsuccessfully to climb back to her nest, which was too high for her rescuers to reach. Wennity was a beautiful, delicate, white fantail and as soon as she was old enough found a handsome white pigeon, Reggie, as a mate. Reg had a nice roomy nesting box in the shed, which just happened to be two floors above the box shared by Chubby Checker , a disabled racer who we think is our most elderly resident, and his wife Wingo. Even as the plastic eggs were being “incubated” Wennity started sneaking off, with a little waggle of her tail, to flirt with Chubby. Eventually she left poor Reggie to be Chubby's number 2 wife. Wingo wasn't at all happy with this arrangement, but eventually they became friends and shared the incubating duties. I had noticed that Wennity was absent from her nesting box a lot more often than she had been, but then, so was Wingo. There didn't seem to be anything wrong with Wennity and it was a sad shock when John found her lying lifeless in the shed last Sunday. It appears that she had a tumour in her neck that was invisible from the outside, but must have pressed against her windpipe. Wennity was the sweetest and most flirtatious pigeon we have had and she will be sadly missed. | |

| What a shame that such a life-loving little hen had to go so soon! She leaves behind a trail of smiles and special, fun moments as bright as she was. I bet she's the most popular girl in the Rainbow Bridge flock! Fly free, sweetheart. | |
