There is dried formula on their new feathers-any suggestions on bathing these guys? In CA we have some very hot days right now-could I use a warm water bath and a soft toothbrush????
Deborah I have NO idea

Our babies were actually bathed today for the second time. I took a rather flat plastic saucer (that you use for large flowerpots) and filled it with warm water - they had dirty little feet :Rolling eyes: from stepping through all those little heaps which I did not take away quickly enough Oh brother

Silly Peppi thought he can do this outside the bowl with all those movements that pigeons do when they are bathing - I showed him that he had to go IN the water to be able to take a real bath - it was very funny :That\\\'s so f

That's funny. Most of my young ones do that also when they're just learning to bath. Standing right beside the bath, spreading out their little wings, and bathing in thin air. I have absolutely no idea of what they think they are accomplishing. Guess it's called a dry bath. :lol!:

Well, she ate seeds today-and took a bath-she still is very wobbley-but I see such inprovement in her. I will not use "brain injury juvie" any more, I will call her Hope. I love her so much and the babies. I did not know that pigeons were so full of love. pigeon 1 Hope

PostSubject: Very Sad News To Share   Bathing babies Icon_minitimeSat Aug 15, 2009 9:01 am

I received an email that Hope, the beautiful little Pigeon with the brain injury, passed on during the

night. This is especially devistating news as she seemed to be improving.

Fly free, Hope and keep on shinning...we'll all meet up one day.

What do you folks do with your pigeons that you raised from babies. Are they the type you can let fly during the day and the return at night-or is there a special aviary they need since they are imprinted on me?
The loss of Hope was so sad for me-I cannot tell you the hours and the ups and downs I went through. When I first noticed her poop, I cired, when I saw that she had begun eating seed, I cried just to find her dead.
I will see her when I am gone-along with the hundreds of others I lost in 20 years of rescue.
Thank you all so much for your support and Matilda has been the best ever-she even called me the first day offering any assistance.
Deborah

Hi Deborah,
Indeed the news about Hope was a shock. Again my condolences. Very sad

If at all possible, I would suggest making some type of enclosure for the little ones. If you have the room for an aviary large enough for them to fly about that's great. If not, I would suggest constructing an enclosure that would be large enough for the two of them to sleep in and then allow them to exercise inside, perhaps a bedroom, etc.

I, personally, don't think it's a good idea to let an imprinted bird free fly.
Others will be along with suggestions as well.

How are the babies coming along?

I do have an aviary with seven starlings in it. How would they coexsist?

How big is your aviary?

I know it's not recommended to house pigeons and doves together because of their size difference. I'm thinking starling might follow suit of that.

Others with more experience in that field will be along to share their thoughts.
We'll figured out something to keep those little doll babies safe and happy. Bathing babies 142829

My outdoor aviary is 15' x 8' but it also has a area to go inside as well which is a large room 10' x 10'. I am extending my outdoor aviary which will have a door to seperate-maybe the baby pigeons can have one of the aviaries.

Deb...You should keep them separated and it sounds like you have lots of room to do that.
You know we would love to see pictures and that would help us give you better advise.
