We do encourage members, offering Pigeons and Doves for adoption, to have a veterinarian perform a wellness check prior to placement which would include at least a physical and fecal exam.
Copies of medical records should go with the Pigeon or Dove to his or her new home. Doing such can help avoid heartache and expense for the adopter.

|  Excellent reminder, Charis. I would also like to encourage you to encourage any adopting home (who already has birds) to keep the new bird(s) isolated for several weeks just to be certain that the current birds aren't exposed to anything new. That's not something a newbie is likely to think of on their own (especially when your bird is delivered with health records), nor is it likely to be something a newbie-loft is set up for, but this, too, can save heartache for the new home. | |
