Usually when wormer is used, one can find them early in the morning poop. With pigeons being in cages like mine it is easier to get rid of them as I change newspaper daily and cut off their reproduction cycle. One should make sure that diseased pigeon waste does not go in soil as the eggs will hatch and new worms will emerge.

Number 1 - she took off this morning. It is sunny and warm outside and I left loft door open. She spent some time inside but finally went out. Dove right

I'd been wondering about Number 1 since you'd written that she'd refused to leave last week Smile

Best wishes,

Number 1 and 2 are on the palm tree and report to me twice a day. Number 1 is eating from my hand and back to being his old self.
I have two new sqeaker today -
Number 9 - strange looking youngster with feathered feets. It was sitting on the window still waiting me. It has good weight and looks healthy, but cannot fly.
Number 10 - laying on the grass and looking helpless. Thin, loud and hungry. I gave him Spartrix pill because his poop looked way off.
Both of them are on formula (and 5 old ones + two doves)

Today I spent some time deworming all youngsters with Praziquantel and Pyrantel Pamoate. It makes them vomit and it should be given on empty crop. Not pleasant procedure at all, but necessary.

Is there not a wormer you can give them that doesn't make them vomit?

Ivermectin is one of the wormers that is quite safe and good, but it doesn't work on all worms effectively. Not all of them are reacting with vomiting only two of eight treated. Still I hate when they feel discomfort, but I hate more the idea of them having worms.

I agree

They are fine, poop firmed up from the next day and womiting stopped same day.
I have another four rescues, Charis. Two new squeakers and two adults with bad canker.
Another dove died couple of hours after I managed to find her and I have full hands and full house. This this the main reason why I haven't been posting much lately. I feel exhaused, and desperate to find solution. Trying to keep things under control, but cleaning, feeding, medicating is taking most of the time and afterwards I have only wish to take horisontal position and listen to relaxing music. Sorry

I'm sorry to hear about all your incoming rescues, Plamenh.

I hope all goes well and you are able to find some time for yourself.
Relaxing and listening to music is a wonderful way to do that.

Please keep us posted as time permits.

Plamenh - I am very sorry too - to hear about the many creatures you are taking care of - this really costs a lot of energy. I very much hope that the situtation clears up soon and that you can relax again. Sometimes it becomes a burden despite all the love we feel... Very sad

Well, my problem is that it is end of the financial year and most of my clients are keeping me busy. My birds take two hours in the morning and two in the afternoon to feed, change water medicate and clean. Weather is ectremely humid and hot (unusual for SA).
I need to rush things to manage everything and this is adding to stress.
Last time when I was at the pigeon supply shop, I met one older lady who was looking to purchase hen for her pet pigeon. She has a farm in Kalahari desert, lives alone and I made her a present - two hens of mine (she could not made her mind between).
Unfortunately Senegal doves are still dying. I had two more cases and this is my main reason for depression I feel.

I'm sorry to hear you're stretched to the limit between your work and your many patients, and sad about the onset of serious illness among the Senegal doves.

It has been some time since my last update, Aramis is out and fine back to his old self. Number 1 and 2 are OK fully integrated back to flock. I have 4 new youngsters, 9 to hand feed in total, two baby doves three youngsters weaned last week, one baby trush, one adult bird with exremely resistant canker and I lost count of my birds again.
