not to have checked the nest boxes! Yep, we've got an oopps!!! baby!

I am very upset with myself for letting this happen!

Baby is so very sweet and when I pulled it to show DH he had a huge smile on his face! He's a sucker for babies of any species!

Mommy is an Egypitian Swift, don't know who is the daddy though & baby must of hatched last night.

I'm hoping baby is at least a hen...we need more girlies around here!

I know how you feel...that sinking feeling when an oops baby is discovered. Congratulations anyway...hope the baby is a girl. Cigars are in the mail.

Oh Robin, he/she is just precious. Don't you just love a baby pij? Share more pics as he/she grows up.

I've decided to call this baby Toad. he's so big that he fills my entire palm & just kinda sits there like a big old fat toad!

Toad just keeps getting cuter and cuter. He is a chubby little guy, isn't he?

When I opened the loft this morning I found Toad sitting on the floor cold & in distress.
Before I opened the big door to the loft I heard pigeons fighting & fussing going on, very unusual for the morning!

Seems as though they were picking on poor Toad , he had a blodd feather pulled out & a totally empty crop.

He's just a bit over 3 weeks old & almost totally feathered so I figure mom & dad thought it was time for him to get out on his own.

Toad is in good spirits in cage by Precious for company, he will live in the house most likely for the winter, if he turns out to be a she then maybe a pairing with Precious will be in the future.

I'll post photos later.

Awww, poor baby. He may have just wandered out of the nest, and couldn't get back. I hate it when the adults pick on little ones. Good that you brought him in. Would love to see recent pictures. He is such a cute little thing. Glad you found him before he was really injured.

Poor little Toad... He must have been very unhappy and confused at ending up hungry, cold and alone after being so well looked after by the parents!
I'm so glad he's all cosy indoors now, with Precious close by, and I'll keep my fingers crossed that Toad may be a girl!

OK... I just gotta say....... ............... THAT NAME IS JUST AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!..... and thou' I KNOW, you have more than enough hand fulls of feathers and fluff. Can I secretly hope you have another so I can name him Frog!!!!

I've been having a heck of a time weaning Toad I have Toads cage by Precious so they can watch each other & so Toad knows what another pj looks like.

The other day I decided to put them together, Precious has been so interested in the whole handfeeding process, in great hopes that maybe Precious could help teach Toad to eat on his own.

From the very first they were sitting close to each other, Toad treating Precious more like a parent with the begging & wing flapping.I was still handfeeding Toad a few seeds & thawed corn/peas.

Today when I checked the two Toads crop is nice & full of seeds! And I caught Precious sitting next to him/her delicately fluttering her wings & cooing softly... maybe Precious is a hen and not a cock.

All I know is that now neither pijjies will be lonely any more.

That's wonderful! It's great to know they get along very well and have each other for company!

What wonderful news Robin.

Precious has needed a companion for soooooooo long. Sounds like the perfect match
