A rehabilitated pigeon looks for new home - Rockland County NY

Please - could anyone help here - I am just passing this on?

Hello,
I wanted to find out if there is a sanctuary in the Rockland County NY area or somewhere not too far away for a pigeon who was injured years ago and rehabilitated. He (or she) has been living indoors amongst people for years and receiving good care. This pigeon had a cagemate for years who recently passed away, and we would like to possibly see about placing this pigeon into an environment where the bird may be happier.

Another poor pij I hope either the owners decide to keep him or they can find a new home for him.

Reading the posted answers to this persons plea has me very sad because I never would have thought that any sanctuary or rescue would accept a pigeon, then turn around and feed it to a raptor! This is terrible! :eek:

Also...I think it would be very stressful for this Pigeon to be taken away from the home he has known. I think the poster should keep the bird and think about taking on an older disabled Pigeon for company.

Why does the owner not want to keep this bird? I don't understand why moving him to a new place would be helpful. Losing a mate is bad enough, but a new home would just add stress to the poor thing. Why not just try to get another cage mate, as Charis suggested?
