| Hi all Virgil here. You guys should all see what Mom got us now. It's this weird looking thing that shoots a mist of water into the Aviary. It has been so bloody hot here for the last week or so. Somedays 90, 95, and the other day it was 100 degrees out. The loft got up to about 90 on that day. It was a long work day for Mom, and by the time she got home, it was kinda too late to set up our pools. So she was worried about us all day long. Me and Cricket are the reasons that she doesn't set the pools up unless she is around. I guess she's afraid that if I fell down in the pool, and with everybody else crowding, I may not be able to get up. That's cause I have one wing gone. Cricket still has both wings, and can use them pretty good, just can't fly so good. Don't tell her that I told you guys, but even before I came to live here, she didn't like to set up the pools if she wasn't around. She's a worry wort. Anyway, when you have challenged birds in your loft, I guess you hafta think of those things. Notice that I said CHALLENGED. I don't think of myself as handicapped. I can do everything the others can do except fly. And the way things are arranged around here, I don't really have to be able to fly to get around. The only annoying thing is that when I'm too bossy with Cricket, she can get up higher than I can, and she knows it, so she sometimes goes up on a higher perch where she figures I can't get her. She always comes back down to me. I think she just likes to show off. Well anyway, Mom was talking to Auntie Charis, and she told my Mom that someone else had bought a mister thingy at Home Depot, so the next day she ran to Home Depot to see if she could get one. And she did! She figured out some way to put it on top of the aviary, so that it shoots a water mist down into the aviary for us guys to enjoy, and cool us off. Everyone is kinda scared of it though. None of us has ever seen anything like it before. Not me though. I'm no scaredy cat. I just go along with the rest of the guys to I don't make them look like sissies. Anyway, with only one wing, I don't get as hot. That whole side where my wing is missing gets cool breezes. See, I'm trying to have a positive outlook about things. Anyway, just in case anyone is looking for a cool thing to keep your birds cool in the hot weather, look at this.

| Hi Virgil..............You're looking good. Such a handsome guy. It's no wonder why Cricked chose you. I love your new mister. What an excellen idea. When the rest of the guys get over their fear I'm sure you'll all enjoy taking baths in it. Virgil, will you please ask Mom, how much it cost? I think my feral flock would love one in the backyard. They have a pool out there, but with the temperatures constantly over 100 degrees every day here, the water gets hot and needs to be changed every hour. This mister would give them a constant source of nice refreshing cool water. You be a good boy for Mom Virgil, and take good care of Cricket. Louise | |

| A mister . . . What fun you and your loft mates are going to have, Virgil. I hope it keeps you real cool on those darn hot days. It was great hearing from you, by the way. | |

| As hot as it's been, I wouldn't be surprised if you and Jay find yourselves accompanying the pijjies under the mister, Louise. | |

Yes, he does look good. He has settled in well. He seems to chase the others away from the water table a bit less too. He's just so adorable. He used to sleep on the box in front of the aviary window, but lately, I've noticed that he roosts on the board that runs across the front of their nest box. Cricket must be loving the company. First thing when I go in, in the morning to feed them, he is already down on the floor, scampering about and checking in all the nooks and crannies for an overlooked piece of straw to bring back to Cricket for their nest. He builds her a throne. LOL. I really enjoy him. | |

| I fed Virgil's little flock on Hawthorne street today. It's bitter cold here and when I drove past them, many were huddled together on the gound of a parking lot. I heard from Faon that one of the neighbosr harrasse her when she leaves food and often a woman in the store near by even sweeps the food up, but I left some anyway. An older gentleman came up while I was there and offered the flock some bread. They seemed to know him and it made me happy that the flock has more than Faon and myself as advocate and guardian. | |

| Well, at least Virgil is where it is warm and dry. Poor things. Like they don't have it hard enough, people have to be mean to them. I stopped to feed the gulls and pigeons in a mall yesterday, and a guy was walking to his car. He yelled something over to me, and I didn't hear what he had to say, so I figured he was someone who didn't approve. No. Turned out he was telling me that it was good luck to feed the birds. He has moved to R.I. from Manhattan, where he had a flock. He talked about how hard it was for him to give up his birds. He said he felt that ALL pigeons are angels. I enjoyed our little talk, and was on my way. Nice to run into someone who loves the pigeons. Made my day a little nicer. I'll be sure and let Virgil know that you and that man are watching over his friends. That'll make him happy. | |

| Yes, and I think he felt that way too. Just seeing him watching the pigeons, I could tell he missed his flock. Maybe he will get more one day. Anyway, it's always nice to run into other pijjie lovers. | |

| I'm glad there are more pigeon lovers out there, and that you both got to meet them and tell us about it! I love coming across bird and animal lovers too, and it's great to know that our feathered and furry friends have other friends to care for them. Jay, please say hello to Virgil from me! | |
