| Those are my two new rescues. for posting the pictures Charis The one standing in the rear is the smaller of the two. Still squeaking like crazy I have fed him 3 times already. He is quite alert and active. I think he got booted out of the nest too soon. I expect he will do fine He needs to be weaned, treated for canker and learn how to fly. I expect that he will be able to be released into the feral flock when time warrants. The bird standing in the front is the heat exhausted bird from yesterday. I am concerned with this one I initially thought that it was simply dehydration, but as today has progressed I am thinking that I got this little one just in time. This bird is extreemly thin......reminds me of how Sweetie was.......severe emaciation. I have noticed that this bird is having a hard time swallowing. Opens it's beak, gasps for air, and stretches his neck after each syringe of formula. I am only able to give him less than 1cc at a time. Leads me to believe he has not been able to feed for awhile now. This is all the same as Sweetie.........advanced canker in the throat. I have given him 50mg of Flagyl to start. I'm keeping his formula on the very thin side to make it easier to swallow. I think maybe a possibility of coccidia as well. I will see how he does over the weekend and on Monday I might bring him to Dr. Hauck for a fecal and to get some Spartix to add to the Flagyl for canker treatment. Thnaks for all the kind words and encouragment. Louise | |

| I have had to seperate the two birds. The squeaker is doing beautifully He is eating well........I have him up to 15cc's of Kaytee 4 times a day. He is very alert, active and vocal............Squeeks like crazy every time he sees me. He should be just fine The other baby that was suffering from the heat from by backyard feral flock is very, very ill This morning I found that he had vomited everything from last nights feeding. When I picked him up, he gushed out a full crop full of clear liquid....this is not a good sign. He is so very weak..........has very little fight left in him..........sits in one spot all fluffed up.........pooping bright green watery poops. I have consulted with Charis. I am treating him with Flagyl, also withholding all food except baby applesauce today. So far I have fed him the applesauce 4 times today and he has held it down.....but he looks absolutely miserable This is worse than Sweetie was. I am so very concerned for this bird. I have him in the smallest pet carrier, on the heating pad and watching him very carefully. Will consult with Charis again this evening........we are thinking of possibly adding another antibotic in addition to the Flagyl. I am praying that this little one can hang in there and survive. | Appreciate the update, Louise. I'm so glad the one squeaker is doing well and equally as sorry that the little heat affected baby is not doing so well. Positive thoughts and get well wishes are being sent your way. Please do keep us posted on how things are going. | |

| The squeaker is doing wonderfully She is still being hand fed, but I have moved her to the bird room and placed seed and water dishes in her cage. I have found that these little ones learn best by example. Watching the other birds eating will hopefully get her on the road to being weaned ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am happy to report that the heat exhausted little one seems slightly improved After holding down baby applesauce all day yesterday, I introduced some Kaytee back into her system last night. She ate 8cc's of Kaytee, applesauce, yogurt mix. She held it down all night. I have also added 0.2.5cc liquid Cipro in addition to her Flagyl treatment. Her poops still look awful but improved from yesterday. Increased her Kaytee mix to 10cc's this morning, followed by her Flagyl and Cipro. She seems to be swallowing with less effort today. I think the Flagyl has started to break down all the canker blocking her throat. She still sits all fluffed and is very weak, but hopefully she is going to make it and will continue to improve Louise | |

| That's good news, Louise. Try to thicken the formula each feeding, if she is keeping it dwon. | |

| The very sick, oldest of the two birds, took her last breath a few minutes ago and is flying with the angels. Louise called me earlier and said that she thought the end was near. While the bird seemed to rally yesterday, she was very debilitated this morning. She passed on with Louise holding her amd me on the phone hoping her suffering would come to an end. | |

| Louise, I'm sorry the little bird didn't make it. You did your best, but unfortunately we cannot always save them. At least he is out of pain, and he died in a safe sheltered place. Thanks for trying for him. | |

| Thank you everyone for all your kind words. This poor little baby was just too young, weak and malnourished to have the ability to fight any longer. Although she seemed a little better yesterday, this morning I knew she was failing. She couldn't stand and was having trouble breathing. I wish there was something else I could have done to save her. She was so sweet. I find comfort in the fact that I was able to hold her in my arms and make her know she was loved right up to her last breath. She was suffering, and God has taken her back to join all the other angels. FLY FREE AND HIGH LITTLE ONE YOU WERE LOVED AND WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN Louise | |
