| I just got in tonight an older squeeker, very weak. I've warmed him up, re hydrated, and I'm feeding baby bird formula. He is still weak on his feet but is more responsive and vocal, and just started responding to feeding like a baby pigeon usually does where before he was quite passive.
His poop has been scant, slimy, and greenish black. Urates look ok. I started him on Flagyl. A test on his poop didn't show any coccidia and just one capillaria.
Should I worm him at this point? Is there anything else I should be doing now? I really don't like the way his poops look or smell. Mouth is clear with no odor. | |

| Sounds like he either got booted out or the parents stopped feeding him to soon. I would definately keep him on the heating pad until he regains some strength. Poor little one is propably suffering from early stage starvation. I think with the hand feeding, warmth and being protected and safe, he will start to put on some weight and get stronger. The poops should improve as he starts to digest the formula. The flagyl as a precautionary measure was an excellent idea. I would wait until he is a little stronger before I would worm him. | Jen...I didn't see your thread until just now. I think you are doing every thing just right. The only suggestion I have is that you monitor the droppings weekly for the worms as they don't always show up in the fecal samples. If you continue to see capillaria it could be that he has quite a few. When you do worm him, it might be a good idea to start him on baytril a couple of days before hand, just in case he does have a lot of worms and had a large die off.

| After about 5 days of hand feeding the little guy started eating on his own. He also began pecking and wing slapping me so he definitely feels better LOL. I gave him to my friend, a wildlife rehabber, who has a couple baby pigeons his age. I think he will eat even better with the stimulation of other pigeons nearby. | |

| for the update, Jen. I'm so glad and all is going well for the little one. I agree, putting him with a couple others his age is a great idea. They can get to know each other and eventually all be released together. | |
