| I was told a German Owl was on the way but the Owl turned out to be a Fantail with a German Owl band. | |

| My guess would be Syrian/Indian Fan cross, but that is just a guess. Poor thing had broken wing that has atrophied so he/she will never be able to fly. | |

| Well...I had a call form the Audubon Society telling me they received an Old German Owl pigeon with a broken wing. Since it is a non-native species, they asked if I would accept the bird. The bird is banded but with 2004 German Owl bands. They tried tracing the bands which lead them to an east cost number that is disconnected. Someone used old band because this is a young bird. Apparently a man brought the bird in and told them he found the bird 5 months ago. Said he wanted to keep it as a pet but that the bird started wing slapping and he felt the bird should be with his own kind. No way this bird is 5 months old. The fellow fed them a line. The bird is sick...vomits everything and has green slimy poop. Poor thing. | |

| His head looks like that of a nun pigeon. No matter what breed he is, he's stunning.
I hope he gets to feeling better real soon.

| Beautiful bird. Poor little thing.......... Broken wing and sick....sounds like he was abused and starved. I sure hope you can get the vomiting under control and are able to nurse him back to health. So glad the Audubon Society contacted you. His best chance for survival is in your hands Please keep us posted. Louise | |

| Keep your fingers crossed that the bird is a hen. I have 6 unattached male birds and not a single unattached hen. | |

| Poor thing vomited a large chunck of something that looks like plaster. When I was trying to figure out what it might be, it broke into 3 pieces. The vomiting has stopped now, which is very good.

| Whatever it was that she vomited, thank God she got it up and it didn't cause an obstruction. I hope you will be able to get some food into her now and that she can keep it down You see, I'm using she.......knowing that you need a hen! Louise | |

| Thanks Louise. She [?] is eating on her own. I've decided to call her Moon because her white head looks like a bright moon in on the black of her body. Did I say that right? ...You know what I mean. | |

| Trying to catch up on the threads, darn computer is acting u again! Anyway.... I just hate it when people can't fess up & say the truth when they relinquish an animal, it would be so much easier treating the animal & I would have more respect for the person if they didn't lie. Its good to read that Moon barfed up the solid piece & is eating again I'm sure now you will see abig improvement to her health. I'm hoping she is a she! | |

| What a beautiful bird, Charis. I am glad she is in your hands now - she will have the best chances to recover now and I very much hope that can help her quickly. Moon has such a dignified look but I feel very sorry that she won't be able to fly again. Is that for sure? This so sad. | |

| I'm certainly no expert, but from the pictures Moon doesn't look like a fantail. I hope he/she is feeling better. | |

| At first sight I thought a Nun as well, Cindy, but once Moon started posing, I changed my mind to a fantail cross. If you where able to see Moon in person, you would know what I mean. A Syrian Fan does have a straight tail and looks like Moon, but I don't know if the Syrian does the same pose. Moon poses like the bird in the first picture. http://www.pigeoncote.com/hilight/fantail/fantail.html | |

| Thank you Petra. Moon can fly some...from counter top to cupboard. She [?] mostly stays in one place. Her tail feathers are quite worn, which makes me believe she has been confined to a cage for a while and so I opened the door to her cage to give her the opportunity to be in the open. For the longest while she was afraid to come out. Yesterday when I let her out, she stayed out for a couple of hours and then went back to the cage on her own. I know I said this before but really, I have never had a bird as fearful as Moon. It's very sad. | |

| Poor bird When a bird is that fearful, and not a feral, it leads me to believe that she was abused. Propably confined and taunted.......what a shame How is she feeling otherwise Charis?.........eating, drinking, pooping ok? I know she will get all the love and care she needs with you Louise | |

It is amazing how quickly they learn whom they can trust and whom not. She's got the best chance ever to learn to be a happy pijjie again. Wish you and Moon much luck You know what - all these stories about abused animals makes me aware how important it is to observe even better and watch how a creature reacts and behaves towards human interference. More often I see that many people are unable to interpret even their pets reactions which I find very sad. But it takes time to do so and therefore so many things can go wrong because people underestimate the time you need to treat any creature right. Circus and zoo's are an abomination for me in the meanwhile - this is animal abuse per se in most cases. Animal parks can be better if the animals have a retreat where they are separated from human interference.

| Moon is just lovely, and the name is perfect! Poor baby seems to have had a rough start in life, and it's wonderful that she's with you now and has a chance to know what it's like to be loved, understood and cared for. I'm so glad she vomited whatever it was that was causing the obstruction, and hope she continues to improve... and turns out to really be a hen! | |

That's funny. A fantail that doesn't have a fantail.

| She's doing okay but terrified. I have emailed Deb and asked that she try to find another to take over Moon's care. I'm fairly confident Moon is a Mr. Moon and with so many males here, wanting mates and none to be had, I'm feeling overwhelmed and I don't have a bit of room nor time to spare. | |

| I hope Moon will find a good forever home, and that you can get some much-needed rest and time to yourself. It can't be easy having so many unattached males. | |
