| Good shot Charis. Don't ya just hate it when they start coming on a daily basis? It'll be like that here soon, then the feral flock will stay away. I worry that they won't find enough to eat all winter. | |

| Great shot but I can imagine how you feel about it. Thank heaven we have only kestrels here and the pigeons watch them but do not react i.e. fly away. They are much more concerned about the crows which circle here very often. A few years ago we had regularly a peregrine falcon on the opposite building druing the winter but he has disappeared. I am always looking when one of our balcony starts warning but it is mostly because of the crows... | |

| Here he is again...this taken a few moments ago. The yard is silent and not a bird of any kind within sight or sound. | |

| They could be hiding in that ivy. My smaller birds take cover in the different shrubs around the yard until the hawk leaves. | |

| Great photos, Charis! Beautiful birds, but of course, always a cause for concern because of the pigeons. I'm grateful that there aren't any birds of prey in my area. | |

| You best knock on wood, Teresa, lest one show up. | |

| Around here we have Redtails flying over head most of the year. I don't mind them as much as I do the Cooper's hawk cause their the ones that will try to fly through wire to get what they want! | |

| Yes, Robin ...the Cooper's Hawk is deadly ...the Peregrine too. They are both so fast. | |

They don't come into town, (and we live right in the centre) neither do they appear near the sea. We start finding red kites about 8 miles inland from here, but I've never seen them closer. Apparently they're quite rare, and native to western Europe and north Africa: http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu/site/accounts/information/Milvus_milvus.html

Sharp Shinned Hawks seem to like our area. A year or so ago I was talking to Shi on the phone while looking out the window and one flew across the backyard and landed on the wall separating our yard and the neighbors. My guys were inside the AZ room at the time but were standing like statues and quite as church mice.

I always know when a hawk or for that matter an airplane or even the turkey vultures are flying above the flights, all the pijjies stop in place & cock their heads so one eye is watching the object travel over head. As soon as its far enough away not to worry routine resumes in the flight! :lol

| Well...the hawk was back this morning. Being unsuccessful at catching a meal, he tried flying through the window into the pigeon room. I couldn't believe what a saw..he flew into the window, bounced off and flew at it again and then again, finally roosting in the Camellia. It all happened very quickly. I got a picture of him in the Camellia but he's so camouflaged that he can't bee seen. He is one determined hawk. I'm amazed he wasn't hurt and able to fly away.
Cindy...Turkey vultures are so interesting. Audubon wild care has one named Ruby. She doesn't smell great but she is really a sweet bird.
