This video does not show any violence toward pigeons. It's a video of the pigeons surviving rescued pigeons at their care taker's home.

to the wonderful woman who has opened her home to these precious and ever so innocent birds. Steve Hindy said it all.
Bless all the pigeons who survived this horrific attack.
And for those who didn't, I am so very sorry. . . . May you forever fly high and fly free

I agree, Louise. I love it that Steve said they wanted to focus on the survivors rather than reiterating and replaying the cruel acts that these poor birds endured.

As with any crime, it's good to be able to visualize the victims... makes it real.

Thanks for sharing the video, Charis. I still do not understand how this can go on.

Quite honestly, Petra, it really makes me wonder about our legal system.

It is not only helpful to "visualize the victims" but it is also helpful to "visualize" the perpetrators, as follows: The Hicks and the Rednecks look for someone weaker to show how "smart" and how more powerful the Hicks are. So, the only creature that Hicks can find are pigeons. This is a very common practice: people always try to find someone weaker to blame or to vent own anger at. Simple psychology. So, Hicks and Rednecks, being extremely stupid and dumb, found a weak bird to vent their anger and frustrations at. From my personal extensive experience in downtown Portland, I know that such practice is also wide spread among bums (and/or dopeheads). Bums, homeless and dopeheads, being unable to find anybody or anything lower than themselves, admit to me, every day, in hundreds (yes, there are hundreds of dopeheads and bums in downtown Portland that I meet on daily basis), that they hate pigieons. "Why do you feed those miserable stupid creatures?" the bums ask me every day. So, being unable to find anybody dumber and lower than themselves, people turn their attention to defenseless pigeons (and other creatures). Conclusion: dumb, idiots, brainless and such will always look for creatures that seem (to them) lower than themselves to blame and to vent their anger / frustrations on.

You know...the opposite is also true in downtown Portland. I know of a homeless man that saves part of what money he begs, to feed the pigeons. I have picked up injured pigeons from skid row where a homeless person has asked one of the businesses to find help. I think that mean and cruel people exist in all levels of society. You sure can't tell be looking at someone just where they fit in the mean or kind equation.

I agree Charis, Look at Micheal Vick he had fame & fortune, he wasn't a bum, doper or homeless and he still picked on the defenseless.
I've always thought that most killing was just a form of bullying and that certainly has no single race, age or income limit.

1. "No rule is so general, which admits not some exception." Robert Burton. So, my observations of thousands did not include that one which you are talking about. 2. "Vick" is "no dopehead"? Are you kidding or living in a La-La-Land?

I didn't have to watch the video..just browsing my daily favorite web real quick (I'm at work :() Just by reading the subject title, I felt so relieved and happy to know that these people saved the pigeons that still had the chance to live in this world. I am sure these saviors receive more blessings for what they're doing.

I agree! And I hope that they get mountains of happiness and blessings for every innocent life they help to save! It's awful to see animals being harmed, so I was glad that the video didn't show the shoot. It is there, at the back of the mind, however, and makes me feel very powerless and sad -- but the sweet stories of the survivors, and the love and dedication of their carers are a balm, a joy and an inspiration.

Thanks for sharing the video. Wonderful to watch, and knowing that at least some of these poor birds do survive, and have people caring for them.
As far as the cruelty, I think it is people with low self esteem, who hate even themselves, who do these kinds of things to a weaker creature. Guess they have to take their sick hate out on something that can't fight back. Makes me sick. But it is nice to see stories like these. Thanks.

Thanks for the video--it's important to see what happens when people shoot pigeon. It's really senseless to kill for no reason and even though those pigeons had to endure such cruelty, they seemed to be very tame birds.

I couldn't agree more! And yes, most of those birds are very tame, poor things... some are domestic pigeons that are sold or given away (ever wondered what breeders and racers sometimes do with their surplus stock?), some are bred in captivity for that purpose, and others are netted in parks, where they had become too accustomed to people feeding them to be scared of humans. Such a tragedy!
