I live in Marian, Queensland, Australia

See Here

I'm looking after a young imperial pigeon about 6 weeks old. Does anyone know which trees the pigeons eat fruit from in this region? The bird is thriving well. I will need to start a diet other than (much preferred) strawberries, blueberries, avian calcium & vitamin supplement.

Other imperial doves in the area and visit around the house.

Would welcome your help

Thanks

Susan

Hi Susan. Hi there/Bye
Welcome to Pigeon Angels.

I did a little search to see what information there might be about the specific trees Pied Imperial pigeons eat from. None were mentioned. Disappointed
Perhaps some of our other members will be able to help you. Fingers crossed

These are absolutely beautiful birds. I love it/them
For those who are unfamiliar with this type of pigeon and would like to see a couple pictures and learn a little more about them, click here.

Is there any chance you could post a picture of your little one?
We love pictures. Smile

Those are beautiful pigeons!!

My only suggestion would be to contact a zoological park in your country or possibly an ornithologist at one of the universities, if they don't know they may be able give you contact information about someone that does.

From what I could find, they don't seem too picky. I'd imagine they'd eat any suitable-sized fruit they would come across. I've seen wild figs, wild nutmeg, and carpentaria palm mentioned, specifically. I'd also research the diet of other fruit-doves in the area. The diet is probably similar.
