I bothers me too Robin.. I won't get started with all the reason why, except to say...in my opinion ...those babies, live a life of indifference and cruelty from their beginning to the final moment. We're the cruelest animal.. us humans.

Well that was horrible. How can someone work in a place like that, and just toss them around like they are not little living beings?

I suspect that if they emotionally identifed with them as living beings, they wouldn't be able to work there.

In my wildest dreams I never thought baby chicks were treated so cruel!
I know chickens aren't treated as living, feeling beings but I never thought they treated chicks in such an unfeeling way.
I'm sorry I should have put a warning in the title.

My heart breaks and my blood boils simultaneously while watching that video.
It really bothers me too Robin.

Believe me...the video was mild. One of the reason I stopped eating meat.

I think I've seen that video before. It makes me so sick to think that my poor babies were treated that way. A baby chick, one of the most innocent, helpless animals on the planet... If they're treated so wrong it makes you wonder how less charismatic animals are treated.

It's just awful, the cruelty that people are capable of!

What happens to people to make them so unfeeling and uncaring? Sad isn't it?

That's why I stopped eating eggs and meat myself. Pictures of baby chicks are all over the place, especially at Easter, and thought of as cute and cuddly little animals. Yet in reality they are treated horribly by the billions.

That's why I stopped too, but for me it was a video on cows. At the time, 1986, I was outcast because being a vegetarian was not common and everyone thought I was weird. Even later, 1996, in Virginia I couldn't find anything on the menu, in a restaurant to eat. Now it's no big deal. I like the way meat tastes...I chose not to eat it.

Well - there is simply only one solution to it: STOP EATING MEAT!!! If there is no market, then there is no profit and then there is no cruelty against all these animals. There would not be any forest burning to create more grazing land etc. etc. etc. As simple as that!
For the human being there is no necessity to eat meat!

I agree with you Petra.
It's hard not to preach but I have learned that this is a decision, everyone must decide for them self, in their own way and in their own time. Once one makes the emotional connection with the meat they buy at the store and where it came from, what the animal has been though... ...well...that's when I realized I could no longer eat meat. Because of the way meat is packaged, people just don't make the connection. It's not honest, in my opinion.
When I look back over the last 25 years, the progress that has been made for animal rights is astounding. . In-spite of the progress, there is a long way to go.
For more change...we need people to make the emotional connection.

The turning point for me was when I saw for the first time how cows were "transported" to the slaughter houses. It was a documentary on TV - it made me tremble allover and crying. I could not sleep any more. I dreamt of eyes wide open in fear - I don't want to go into more details...
