Youngster with Salmonella

A week ago, I took young pigeon with Salmonella infection.
Mucous, smelly green diarrhea, left leg paralysis, very thin, breast muscle almost non-existent.
I started syringe feeding baby mix with honey. Medication as follows:
Spartrix 1 tablet – first day.
Diclazuril 1 tablet – first day.
Combination of Sulphadimetazine, Chlorampenicol, Furazolidone and Dimetridazole for 5 days.
From yesterday, he is on vitamins, probiotics, Arnica and Beta-glucan.
Every day he has 10 minutes legs and vent soaking in warm water with diluted sea salt.
Today he started moving his paralyzed leg.
Fight is still far from finished, but I hope that he will manage to pull over.

Sounds like he had/has a combination of things, which is usually the case. I can tell he still feels very sick and weak. I'm hoping for the best.

It's interesting the medications you have used, some of which aren't available to us in the US or at least a bit more difficult to come by.

Well, advantage I have is virtually unlimited access to various medicines, animal and human drugs including homeopathic ones. Disadvantage is that I don’t have a lab to diagnose birds find strain reaction on certain treatment. I try to compensate by broader treatment with safer drugs.

I don’t know to laugh or to cry. Yesterday my biggest problem was he’s paralyzed leg and how to stimulate joint recovery. Today he was able to stand and move his legs with my slight support. Started also drinking water and trying to peck and preen. Now new problem aroused, breathing difficulties. Bobbing tail and open beak breathing. Could it be secondary infection hitting respiratory tract. It was hot day 32~35 degree Celsius and it may be heat too, but his breathing is 60~70 per minute, almost twice faster than in the other birds.

It's extremely heart wrenching to see any animal in distress.
With pigeons, especially, they are shunned terribly so it's such a blessing for them to fall into the care of a .

I am so sorry to hear that.
You had tried so hard. With all your knowledge this poor little soul was certainly in hands that could help if at all possible and was given the very best chance.

It can rest easy now.
