| it's so exciting i wanted to start a new thread, hope that's ok i found Sora halfway out of nest this morning: he's standing on 1 of a pair of single shelf bookcases which are the nest walls the wooden thing (roof) is a corner TV stand original nest (minus roof)... was squashed in the corner...the TV stand is the only thing i've kept the changes were made gradually so's not to upset mum & dad later i heard Apollo calling the kids, this vid is very poor quality having been shot through the letterbox! but if you need to know what happened give it a go after lunch i went out to take pics i moved the "roof" down to the balcony floor and popped Sora on it to photograph him ...he looked curious about making his own way down 1st attempt he's a little embarrrassed about, he kinda crashed into the bicycle - no real harm done tho so i retrieved him we try again, i stood back camera at the ready: success he lands back in the nest no more flights today but i'll update when there's news | |

| i would never have thought that seeing 2 pigeons walking about would be so exciting but on arriving home from work we opened the door to see Sora & Tsai Yun out of the nest...just pottering about my camera was in my bag - battery low but i managed to capture this Sora even jumped up onto the wall but just for a good look around before returning to the nest Tsai Yun joined him in there a few minutes later and last time i looked they were asleep Sora was too active today for me to do his portrait but there's a nice one of Tsai Yun, and a vid of her having a wing test on the other thread | |

| I think we're going to miss them as much as you when they eventually fly the nest. This has been a great story to follow as I for one don't see youngsters growing up from such an early stage with their parents in the wild. It's been a real pleasure. Look forward to the next flight. Janet | |

Janet It has been, and continues to be, such a joy. Can't thank you enough, rattyfied, for sharing Sora & Tsai Yun's ' growing up days' with us.

| there's been a lot going on where the flock hangs out a few weeks ago the guttering was cleaned & (possibly at the same time) the mesh appeared in the last few days the spikes were fitted yesterday a saw a banded pigeon up there...it had a green band on 1 leg & a yellow on the other, it was still here today it's the blue bar at the front of the roof in this pic you can see the mesh and spikes in this too Tsai Yun stayed away from the balcony last night...guess she was with her dad Sora roosted here but was flying before was out of bed i saw them all on the roof near our balcony *and* today i spotted Sora over with the flock...then when i loaded the photo i could see what i'm pretty sure is his sis saddest news is that i have now counted 4 pijies behind the mesh...2 blue, 1 white & 1 red...i just hope there's an exit for them somewhere else | |

| there have been no more birds stuck and the flock is as big as ever i can't even see all of it as they hang out on the other side of the ridge too the youngsters have been there sometimes
Apollo the dad-bird has been back to our balcony a few weeks ago i was in the flat & heard loud calling - a familiar voice it was him casting a critical eye over the changed objects on the balcony he called a great deal but nobody else came
more recently he was sitting on the wall as we left the house, i said hello but he flew off!
some days ago i heard him again, this time he was with a similar-coloured pij they did a thorough inspection then flew to the ledge above the far door & roosted for the afternoon haven't seen them since tho

| Appreciate the update, rattyfied. I'm so glad Apollo has come back to visit. It's comforting to see them and know they are OK. I hope all the others are doing well. | |

only a very few huddle up to the board where the roof steps down(on the side i can see anyway!) not sure where the others have their night-roost - Fancyfeathers wrote:

Is this an unusual amount of snow for you folks? hmm...well it's not often i can recall it snowing 2x with only a small gap between we usually have a little snow each year...but the way it disrupts everything - you'd think it was a first every time
