He Hates Pijjies-Can You Believe This Guy??

Just a short note to let my friends here know that I need their help regarding a pigeon hater who is on my case. I posted a thread under General Discussions on Pigeon-Talk called "He Hates Pijjies-Can you Believe This Guy??". Any advice you can give me on how to handle this type of situation would be greatly appreciate!!

Hi Linda..........I am so sorry that you are going through this. I have had my experiences with these sorts of people. I have had birds poisioned, shot at with BB Guns, stuck in glue traps and now my neighbor directly behind my house has placed thousands of spikes all over his roof.

My advice to you is first check with your town/county and make 100% sure there is no law or city ordance that prevents you from feeding the birds. If you are correct. I would contact the police and make a complaint against the man. Tell them you feel threatened and that he came at you with the broom. You might even be able to get a restraining order against him. He has no right or control over anything you do off of the condo property. Tell the police he has been stalking you and following you to the bridge. Act really scared........which you should actually be.......this quy sounds crazy.

In the meantime, please stay away from this man. He sounds mentally unstable and God only knows what he could be capable of.

I wouldn't worry about him calling a pest control company........that costs quite a bit of money. What I would worry about is that now that the birds know they are fed on the bridge he could put out poisened seed for them.

I feel so bad that you are going through this.

I'm so sorry you find yourself in this situation!

I left a suggestion as well, using the angle of his malicious removal od birdseed from a safe place to one that rats can access, and reporting him to the CO-OP because of the underlying hygiene risk for the community.

But of course, any such action may encourage an escalation on his part, so please be careful.

Thank you both, Teresa and Louise for your suggestions. I will carry through with police intervention if he continues to confront me or physically tries to stop me (becomes "assault", I am a retired Legal Secretary). If he harms the pigeons we have very strong animal cruelty laws here in Vancouver and I would certainly go to the press with live television coverage. If he harms them in any way, he will wish he had not been born because I would call in Mike McCartell of BCTV news. He does a daily 5 minute segment at the end of each news hour, is a true kind-hearted humanitarian and animal lover, has put me and my husband on the news before, did a great story and was so very respectful, so I could remind him of that past interview, and tell him what I have been facing and Mike will come. He did a lovely 5 minute coverage on a seagull story last year in which he asked this couple why they like to feed the seagulls in the park and it was beautiful, unprejudiced, understanding and inciteful. I trust Mike.

I do not think this guy is dangerous, he is just the kind of bully who got what he wanted from this co-op, now that he has had a taste of power he thinks "I asked for 2 inches and got a mile....now I will demand 3 miles more...." I am not one to be intimidated or bullied and I am no one's coward. If I have to stay on the bridge till the birds eat safely and leave, I WILL. If he tries to come up onto the bridge and sweep the seed again in front of me he will have to go THROUGH ME first and I will tell him that. I will suggest that he call the police on me right now, although they will want to know why he is calling and will probably tell him they have better things to do with their time than settle petty disputes. I have already checked to see if it is legal to feed pigeons in vancouver over a year ago, and the City of Vancouver and the Wildlife Society had told me it is totally legal, so I KNOW THAT LEGALLY, HE IS WITHOUT A LEGAL CASE. I have already explained THAT to him. So now I must wait and see what unveils. I do not want to stir the pot, but if he insists on continuing to hassel me, I will proceed as I deem fit. LOL friends!!

Linda, please be careful. Most mentally handicapped people are taking their misery to defenseless creatures, children and women. Doesn’t help you or your birds to get into trouble. You can approach some police officer and just ask him for advice. He may be able to help you from position of law enforcement person and as ordinary citizen too. If you do that in the time when you are not feeding pigeons, they cannot prosecute you (if it is against the law to feed birds).

I'm thinking about it Linda. Perhaps we can talk about it, in the nexr few days, when I feel better.

That is an excellent suggestion, Plamenh. I will drop by the Police Station (it's not far from where I live. I will dress up in my official office female business suit because I believe that you get judged by how you look. I will CALMLY present my problem to an officer with a smile on my face and ask him if he would mind taking a moment to give me some sound advice regarding this situation. Wow! Yeah, this will be helpful....thanks Plamenh (I have already checked and it is legal to feed pigeons in the City of Vancouver, so this guy has no LEGAL case. Thanks, Plamenh!!

I agree that you need to take care and get well. You HAVE and YOU DO help me, so do not feel badly that at this time you must recooperate from this cold/flu, okay?? LOL and take care!!

How are you doing to day, Linda ? I'm so sorry you are going through tihis. It just seems like there is one troll on every block or every complex. If the scientific community needs a new project, it would sure be helful if they could work on eliminating the gene that causes trollism.

I have my own troll to contend with and it hasn't been easy. What I found helpes, is to ignor him. Trolls only understand their own sense of reasoning and so they can't be reasoned with. Since they can't be reasoned with, it does no good to try. What the troll wants is to engage you in a heated verbal exchange because that fuels them and gives them the energy to continue. I ignor my troll. I act as though he's invisable. I don't give him any kind of look that he may construe as a sign I may engage in a converstaion...nothing...as far as I'm concerned, he doesn't exist.

Now...that being said doesn't mean that trolls aren't dangerous. My troll criticall injured a squeaker and had his wife throw it over my fence. There really was nothing that could be done but have the baby PTS. Your troll may be dangerous too but I would suspect mostly to the birds because trolls are cowards and prey on people and creatures that can't defend themself.

I do think it wise you talk to the police. Wearing your power suit is a good idea. Simply and directly state the facts and nothing else. If they do talk to the troll...he will rant and if you have not, he will look like the troll he is.

FYI...Rats can jump a foot or more so don't fool yourself on that one.
Try to feed only as much as the birds will finis at one feeding so there isn't any left over. If there is food left over, you sweep it up. You might try taking the food in some large, flat container...like a litter box so you just take the left overs with you when you leave.

Stand tall and proud....don't let the troll have his way.
Know that we care and that we are sending postive energy to you.

Charis.............I completely agree with you about avoiding any communication or contact with these people. I like you just continue my lifeswork and consider them non-existent.

However, you have been too kind in calling them trolls, I wouldn't even give them that dignity.....They are the lowest form of scum that walk this earth. People that intentionally go out of their way to harm any helpless animal are deranged and demented beings. There have been studies done of mass murderers that have found that their early killing instincts started by killing and mutilating helpless animals. They are very dangerous people.

My suggestion to Linda is to go to the police. Avoid any contact with this creep, and be extreemly careful if she is to continue feeding the birds.

Being a retired legal secretary, you have an advantage over most.
If it's written that feeding 'birds' is A OK, then that hurdle has been met.

Is it possible for someone to accompany you when you go feed the birds?
Often times that will detour a meddler from meddling.

Notifying the police of what has transpired is a good idea. They will at least be aware of the situation.

I will be thinking good thoughts that all goes well and you can feed the pijjies without further interference.

I forgot to add that it's very important you start keeping a journal, detailing any comments fromm the troll or actions on his part...anything that he does regarding this situation. Please include date and time of day. Do not include any judgements regarding his behavior unless those threats make you fearful. Otherwise, try to keep it to just the facts.
Carry a camera if you can.

Agree with Louise, seems to be some scum...what kind of a sicko is he preventing these poor birds from having some grains? Feel like punching his jaws out

I really pray and wish you can make him change his thinking (but i don't think such jackasses change) or he should know that you are not one of those types that will take it lying down and not do anything about it. Really admire your pro activeness about this
As others have suggested, please get in touch with the police or better still, if you have connections in the media and if they can feature this, that would be a big help.
As Charis suggested, try taking a camera and record his inhuman activities. We can use that as a proof later.

I don't know what these creatures get by tormenting poor birds and animals. I have seen people tying crackers on dogs' tails and watching the fun, beating helpless dogs and cats and what not Feel like roasting them alive

Hello, Charis, and all the "friends":

Here's an update: After promising trollman that I would move the birds again to get them off his corner of the building (he was threatening to put up spikebelts), I have kept my word and now feed them across the walkway bridge, one street over, under the Granville Street bridge, which is paved, and I am not far from my last sight. My birds already know to come there, and pass me on the way over there, flying low enough for me to say "hello, babies!" I forgot to mention, as well, that by the elevator, on our floor, I have a picture (acrylic painting) which I did of pigeons in flight in the evening. It is an actual canvass stretched on wood, very sturdy and there is no way it WARPED....IT HAS BEEN BENT, then rehung up. Can you believe such childish, destructive behaviour? So I took it down and hung it in my bedroom. Also, trollman is going everyday up to the bridge and sweeping it off. Gee, that bridge has never been so well serviced! I guess that is his way of letting me know that he is "keeping an eye on me" to be sure no seed goes up on the bridge.....I have filed a police report on him, and if he bothers me they instructed me to give them a call, tell them I filed a report on him, and they will come and talk to him. He cannot stop me legally. It really is hard to understand this kind of hatred of a creature that is so adorable. However, I will now send him a letter and let him know that I have moved the birds and that I can see they are no longer in our area, as I promised, and I will invite him to check out pigeon talk. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.....

So...the Troll has a bridge...now if he's just get underneath it.

Yes, please ask him to visit PT and see how himself how adorable these creatures are. If he still fails to understand and bothers you further, he can have a tryst with the cops.
