| I will start filming him a little every day. He is wonderful! We should have the first episode by Monday.
Roadtrip tomorrow! I am so excited to finally have Lucky that much closer to freedom :) I am going to miss her, but something tells me she has started quite the wave...And I am sure she will be a great wild pigeon!

- So Manuel got a clean bill of health! He has no diseases, no parasites, no broken bones, his feathers will grow back so he'll be able to fly. He is probably going to be deaf, but he will be able to see once the skin on his head grows back a little more and we do a surgery to pull the face back in place. They were amazed he was alive at all! I am getting him back (YAY!!!) until Tuesday. Manuel and I will take care of him together.
That's a wonderful update LovelyFlight So happy for Manuel though it is sad that he won't be able to hear When is the surgery scheduled for? - LovelyFlight wrote:
- I am putting together a proposal for the city of Montreal to build "Safe Feeding Zones" like those in Europe: http://peopleforpigeons.blogspot.com/2008/09/safe-feeding-zones-for-pigeons.html
Is anyone interested in helping me out? I can share the Google document I am working on.
Another way I would need help is with an aggressive information campaign to educate Montrealers on pigeons and try to change their attitudes (as well as gather info by providing an email address - montreal.pigeons@gmail.com - where people can send me their Montreal pigeon stories). This would be in the form of a brochure I will print out and give out. So any positive information about what makes you love these creatures, would help me!!! That's excellent! Liked your pro activeness on this one...i really hope the people and government there change their attitude towards pigeons. We should be the change that we want to see and this is a great way to start. Wishing you luck. You are a beautiful lady LovelyFlight, (Nice pic)

| So Lucky is at the Wild Bird Care Centre. The place is beautiful :) They are wonderful! It's in a wooded area. As soon as we got there we were welcomed by a flock of beautiful and very friendly little blue birds (blue jays?) There were squirrels and chipmunks around. The two girls there were very friendly and they thanked me for bringing the birds all the way to Ottawa. Both birds are going to be just fine! They will spend the winter together with other pigeons (they have a beautiful room with huge windows) and be released together in the spring. The girl told me that Lucky is not human imprinted; she said human imprinting happens when the bird is much younger than 18 days, so even though Lucky is friendly with me, she'll fit right in with the other birds. I had a very good vibe when I was there. I couldn't stay long though, and I've been crying pretty much since. The vet was not there but the girl said that from what she could tell Palomita's feathers are going to grow back and she'll fly again. She also said that Palomita's aggression towards humans is going to work in her favour.
All's well that ends well.
Mannie is also doing well; the skin on his head is growing back. I keep it moist to help it grow faster. Now he has a whole room for himself! I keep him in a cage though, because he is blind and deaf for now and he might hurt himself if I let him loose around the room. He seems still traumatized. It must be horrible to be grounded and blind and deaf all at once, for a bird. Today I put him on the bed and he was going around in circles. He was going clock-wise and that may be because he might see a little out of his right eye. It is very sad to see him like this and I can't wait for him to get better.
I wanted to ask: what is the best thing to feed him? I have been giving him peas and corn (more peas than corn) but I feel he needs some other things in order to get better. What do you recommend?

Perhaps try some raw unsalted small peanuts and shelled sunflower seeds? You can chop peanuts up if you can't find the little ones.

| Thank you for the advice :) by the way Manny is eating on his own. He kept pecking at my fingers when I was feeding him so I thought I would place the small dish of corn and peas infront of him and he ate on his own! I had to guide him a little but he has the will! I have to admit I was geting discouraged; it makes me extremely sad to see him struggle so seeing him wanting to and managing to eat on his own gave me a boost! He is still not drinking on his own but I will keep trying :) I will put some sunflower seeds in his cage. | |

| I have some bad news. It is very unfortunate and it has broken many hearts, but Manny is no longer with us. We tried our best and loved him a lot and he found a good home but he did not make it. We found out that he was in fact in a lot of pain and would die so we decided to euthanize him. Manuel was him until the very end. We have learned a lot from him and I know is finally flying again. I will never forget him.
Please contact me if you hear of a Montreal pigeon in need. I have a whole room full of pigeon things waiting for the next little souls in need.

| Irina.. I know you are hurting right now... I know Manuel is hurting too....maybe Manuel Jr.'s purpose in life was bringing us all together...changing your life so you see the need to help other Pigeons that need a kind heart and advocate in your area. His life has brought some wonderful caring humans together and while I am deeply saddened about his death I can't help but celebrate your new awareness and that of Manuel's too. | |

| Manuel and Irina, I am so very sorry to hear about Manuel, jr. You both gave him a gift few feral pigeons receive, the loving touch of a human. May you forever fly free, sweet Manuel | |
