Also ...

Pigeons by Matthew M. Vriends
Pub by Barrons
Obtainable from some pet stores (Petsmart, maybe - that's where mine came from before the store became Pets At Home)

Described as "A complete pet owner's manual" and certainly has info aplenty (I still refer to it)

http://redstarcafe.wordpress.com/2007/12/25/providence-of-a-sparrow/

Providence of a Sparrow, is a powerful book and was written by my friend Chris Chester. I cried off and on nearly all the way through because his insight rang so true. For anyone that cares and appreciates "trash birds" of any kind, you will love this book.
I met Chris because of his love for House Sparrows and he was kind enough to take in a House Sparrow named Scruf that I hand raised from 1 day old.
Chris joined his beloved B, at the Rainbow Bridge on April 16, 2007. Scruf joined them both 6 weeks later.

Great topic, Charis! I have only just found it.

I would like to add:

Hari's Pigeon by Helen Griffith

Hari rescues a pigeon from a cat in the garden and makes a home for it in his room. As he nurses the pigeon back to health, he becomes increasingly attached to his pet and records his feelings in a diary. It is this diary that makes up the remarkable and extremely readable story of Hari's pigeon.

The Snow White Pigeon by Enid Blyton

Isabel rescues a fantail pigeon from a cat. She didn't have any money to buy corn so she does errands for the farmer's wife in return for corn to feed the pigeon.

Billy Finds a Pigeon by Helen Solomon

Billy finds a racing pigeon

Gay Neck by Dhan Gopal Mukerji

The story of a beautiful pigeon born in cCalcutta. Gay-Neck was awarded the Newberry Medal by THe Children's Librarians' section of the American Library Association in 1928, for the most distinguished contribution to American children's literature during the year.

Victoria the Biography of a Pigeon by Alice Renton

The diary recording the real story of the life of a squab found in Victoria Station

The Public Life of the Street Pigeon by Eric Simms

The extraordinary story of one of life's unsung heroes, the feral pigeon, tracing its ancestry back to wild rock dove. ...the history of man's exploitation of the pigeon and finally the street pigeon's triumph over mad-made environment, the exploted becoming the exploiter.

Obituary about the author. Interesting man.

I was very, very sorry to hear Chris Chester was dead. Something else I missed. Rebecca was a member of fprc...I meant to buy the book but somehow didn't get round to it. That will be my next purchase.
