- Jenn...how is Teyha today? Did she seem to be in distress over her long day yesterday?
She did really well actually. After her casts came off all she wanted to do was flap her wings. So I let her do that while I held her. Almost like she was celebrating too. I did not give her the pain meds last night. Dr. Funk said that she had already been on them long enough. SO I withheld. She is wanting to be more mobile and so in a minute we are all((Teyha included)) headed off for the fabric store and home depot so we can construct some things for her today. She loves to sit in my lap... and I have been given many ideas from a local rehaber as well as Dr. Funk to try out so we shall see how that goes. I will take photos and post as soon as I have some spare time. In the midst, I think I may have strep throat, or something, so a stop at the Dr.'s for me is order first. As most of you do not know.. I have had bronchitis for the last 2 weeks... and I feel like I'm just not getting better. Anyways... Tehya is tagging along with us, as she loves to see all the things go by outside...even if someone needs to sit in the car with her, She is welocmed with us wherever we go. I will take my camera, because I have been video tapping her Journey for a video. Funny because its BEEN many years since I to had to prepare a diaper bag, but now I have a pij~diaper bag that gets totted along with us! LOL!! I'm a DORK.. I know... BUT hey it works!

| Phew... after 2 days of HIT and Miss on what would work for Tehya ..... I FINALLY HAVE IT!!!!!! Such a HUGE Thank You to My friend Lizz who has been a complete LIFESAVER, helping me all night tonight. she came up with this idea.... and I kinda ran with it! We altered it a tad... But as soon as I made it and we got Tehya in it she fell asleep right away.... It is a sling that I lined with fleece at the holes for her feet and shoulders/wings.... initally we had it spread out to be more open, but we have had to pin it in the middle so its more like a sack now. After we got her suspended I ran a piece of material through her legs and from front to back and used a clothes pin to hold it in place. Our main issue has been; she is getting SO good at using her wings to get her up and out.. so if I put her in the towel rolled up.. she'd lift herself out!!!ending up twisting her legs more ...which places a lot of pressure on them and her lil' hips. Then I tried the basket with holes cut in the bottom of the basket and used foam and fleece to line the holes so her feet would dangle below ..... once again she lifted herself out. Then I tried the top of the basket... with one hole..and another with two holes for each leg... YEP.. . it was a no go as well... she uses her wings to lift up and wiggles right out! :For Shame: SO... Last night after waking up 5 times with her.. . I knew I had to find a solution.. cuz <<<yawning>>> BOY am I tired!!! Lizz had her thinker on.. and THANK goodness she did..... What we have now is the photo below... The sling keep her wings in place because I cut the slits so that no pressure was placed on her shoulders...and then fleece linned the belly and leg holes. Then I susspended her and used clothes pins to clasp it together about 4 inces up on the sling and clipped it to the top of her cage... so now her feeties hang down, removing all the pressure from her hips and legs.... YAYYYYYYYY!!!!! NOW... I can slowly, start the sponge method of correctig the SPLAY! and I am SO HAPPYYYYYYYYYY!!!! Happy happy!!! This last picture was before I placed the strip of material through her legs... to stabilize her....once I did that she went straightto sleep. I know it's gotta feel GREAT to get all that pressure of her hips and legs!!!! I just checked on her... she is sound alseep! YIPPIE!!!!! I have the heat lamp on the bottom of the cage to keep her feeties warm.... HERE's to hoping I have a FULL nights sleep! LOL  <<<I'm off to bed!>>>

| WOW...she has grown in the last few days. She looks so much better. The sling makes a lot of sense. Big hug to Liz and you for not giving up. ... ... | |

| She is adorable, Jenn. You and Lizz did a great job with the sling. It looks like Tehya is all snuggled in, so you go and get a good night's sleep. | |

| Jenn & Liz -- you're brilliant. You can see from the bottom picture how the sling might have been putting pressure on her rib cage -- the cross-piece gives her support along another axis, removing the inward pressure from the sling (forgive me for thinking like an engineer.) After you start the sponge method to begin bringing her legs together, maybe the next enhancement would be some type of surface she can grab with her feet to rock her sling forward or backwards a little bit when she needs to poop. If she gets the hang of that, maybe the next step could be hanging the sling from a rod, so that she can walk the sling forward, sliding the sling along the rod -- sort of like pidgie physical therapy. Here's an example of a similar device that was used for three Chihuahuas that were born without front legs: http://www.nsalamerica.org/campaigns/chihuahuas2/http://adopt.animalleague.org/video.php?vid=13 | |

I have 2 weeks in her cast... and so I'm going to start her splay movement today. I have a few adjustments to make to the slling, which I will work on today.. ((plus I had another idea with the sling Im gonna try too)) BUT I only woke up 3 times last night! and when I woke her up this morning she was all cuddled in.....so we're getting better! To give her a break from the sling Lizz made me a snuggle sock for her that she is sending me. And I have used a tube sock and cut ity bitty pieces of foam and stuffed it for support..kinda like a bean bag shaped like a doughnut. Keep the ideas FLOWING Peoples!!! I need all of them!! THANK YOU ALL so much!
