| Good morning everyone! I wanted to send a quick update as I’m pretty busy here getting everything ready to go for baby season. We have not received any babies yet but with the weather warming, it won’t be long. Great Horned Owls and Barred Owls are nesting, along with cottontails and squirrels. It will be a bit before baby songbirds come in. A reminder to be careful if you burn established brush piles as these are a favorite for nesting bunnies. We get quite a few burned babies in every year. Also, when you roto-till your garden, take a check through first and look for baby bunnies as that is another reason we get in injured/orphaned babies. If you have not brought in your cat or built an enclosure for it now is a great time to do that. 80% of the intakes of small mammals and songbirds are due to cat predation…keeping cats out of the environment is key to the survival of wildlife. This adult rabbit came in from a cat attack…you can see the badly damaged back leg. **April 24th is our Annual Wildlife Baby Shower! We have a lot of fun every year. Come and visit our Educational Wildlife (we’re hoping to have the Beaver enclosure built by then), have some refreshments and see some babies on our remote video from the rehab hospital. Bring a gift to the wildlife, either monetary donations or supplies from the wish list and be entered for some great door prizes. If you would like a copy of the flyer e-mailed to you please let me know. You are welcome to print it and pass it around or put it up so others can see it! **We have been blessed with a double donation challenge yet again by the Family Foundation in Pittsburgh…All contributions from now until the end of April will be doubled! This is always great news as we get in so many animals now that we must continue to find funding for the ever growing numbers! Donations must be made online at the website, www.skyes-spirit.com or by mailing a check to the address below. Cash donations can be doubled as long as they are accompanied by a signed/dated letter of the amount donated and I will back it up with a deposit slip of the amount. New and continuing pledges will also be doubled so PLEASE, sign up TODAY to pledge your monthly support to the wildlife. Visit this link, http://www.skyes-spirit.com/index_files/pledge.htm to get started. If you would prefer to mail a pledge monthly send me an e-mail and I’ll put you on a reminder list that I send out at the beginning of each month. Thank you all for your love of wildlife and for helping us to keep this center open for them. I couldn’t do it without you! Love and light, Maryjane Maryjane & Robert Angelo Skye's Spirit Wildlife Rehabilitation Center www.skyes-spirit.com889 Farren Surrena Road Harrisville, PA 16038 ***“Skye’s Spirit Wildlife Rehabilitation Center is a non profit center dedicated to the care, rehabilitation and release of inured and orphaned wildlife. | Last year I donated rabbit formula for the baby bunnies. I had no idea that had to have it specially made. It's expensive too. Much more so than buying puppy or kitten formula.
It's amazing to me, that with costs they way they are, that this wonderful rehab has managed to keep the doors open. They make a difference for all the wonderful creatures that would other wise perish. | |

| The baby rabbits need a formula to meet the needs of a rabbit... formula for kittens and puppies is lacking the right neutrients, but I don't remember which ones. Because there isn't a need for rabbit formula... it's expensive. It was very interesting as it was explained but since then, I have processed so much other imformation, I've let go of part of what was told to me about the formula. :That\\\'s so f | |

| I misunderstood your statewment. The formula you donated was not specifically for baby rabbits, rather rabbits in general? It's pretty incredible how these people can keep up with the needs of the variety of animals they take in. | |

| Good morning everyone! I wanted to send out a quick note to let you know that the first baby of 2010 has arrived at our center. A baby Great Horned Owl. He/she fell from about 60 feet, has head trauma and also had a good sized twig embedded into her body cavity. She’s got a head tilt but is eating well. Hopefully we can get her out with our foster mom soon but want to try to get her head upright more first. In the photo you can see how big the stick was that we removed from the body, that had to hurt! This baby came in as a transfer from my friend and fellow rehabilitator Robyn Graboski of Centre Wildlife Care in State College. She wanted to get this baby with a foster parent and our lady does a great job! We’ll keep everyone informed how this little one is doing! I’d also like to update everyone on the beaver that we got a while ago! Her fur has improved 100%. She still doesn’t like deep water but I’ve got her going into a shallow tub now and she’s enjoying it. She’s gained a lot of weight too and is eating very well. It’s amazing to watch her walk on her back legs while balancing with her tail to carry twigs and branches with her front feet and mouth. She also moves any food she wants to store. We are preparing the area where we are building her enclosure. It will be where one of our buildings was destroyed in a storm this year, right near the Turtle Habitat. We will try to have it ready for the Baby shower so you all can come and meet her. **Reminder that the Wildlife Baby Shower is on April 24th from noon to 4pm. Please come and visit the wildlife, see babies on our live feed video, have some refreshments and help us to raise the much needed funds and supplies to care for wildlife. If you would like me to e-mail you a flyer let me know. ****DOUBLE DONATIONS ARE HERE AGAIN UNTIL THE END OF APRIL!!!! Any contributions made between now and the end of April will be doubled. This does include new pledges!! We have 54 people that pledge their monthly support and desperately need about 300 to ensure enough funds monthly to keep up with the ever growing numbers of animals coming in for care. PLEASE PLEDGE YOUR SUPPORT TODAY!!!. Visit the website, www.skyes-spirit.com and click on the pledge link…it will take you to the page where you can click on the amount you want to contribute each month online through paypal. You can use a credit card that way. If you would prefer to mail a monthly pledge please let me know and I will set you up with an e-mail reminder. THANKS TO ALL THAT HELP THESE BEAUTIFUL ANIMALS!!! For those of you with Facebook, we have a facebook page. Click here to become a fan. We also have a Cause page on Facebook, you can Click Here to join that too! You can find mine and Robert’s personal pages there too or e-mail me for more info. Please forward this on to anyone on your lists that would like an update or that may want to support these amazing animals. They all need us to care! Love, light, and big Hugs!!! Maryjane | |
