Now this is going to be an interesting thread.
I have a real favourite white/grey Grizzle pigeon who seems to be the head of my local flock.
I call him Grizz and he's been with them for as long as I can remember. Although the flock was mainly pure white some new grey and other colours have started to join the flock, but they all seem to follow Grizz's lead.
He's quite amazing as he always recognises me or my car way before I park up to feed them and he flies overhead in a circle gradually getting lower before landing at my feet.
Sometimes I go down later in the day and the flock are inside their building so I have to throw some seeds up onto the roof outside their window as the car park is full. I can guarantee that as soon as the first seeds hit the roof it will be Grizz that's first out to feed and then the others will follow him down one by one.
Today there was a strange van on the car park and I won't throw seeds up when that happens in case it's brings unwelcome attention to the birds.
However Grizz spotted me parked up on the other side of the road and flew across to where I was so I decided to put the seeds down there. He then flew up and circled overhead as if to tell the others where to come for their feed and sure enough, one by one they followed him over.
He is so clever and I feel a special bond with him, it'll be a sad day when their home is demolished as I fear I'll lose touch with him.
