We have a new nickname for our Emily: Emily Kolibri (the German word for hummingbird). Emily is the queen mother of our balcony pigeon dynasty and the mate of Pete - the junk dealer (that's the nick name for our patriarch Pete). Emily and Pete were always quite contained when it came to try something new such as eating from my hand. But after a while they learned it too. It took 4 months though!!Oh no Others were always quicker....

While quite a few pijjies have learned to knock on our balcony door when they want something to eat - really they do with their beaks - Emily has started a whole new habit on a higher level: she is flying up like a hummingbird - just at my! eyelevel - and flying in front of me just on the spot until I leave her in which she then does like the wind. The one or other is copying her in the meanwhile. These pijjies are really quick learners and totally crazy! nutter nutter nutter

That is a riot (but smart) about Emily, Petra. Flying like a hummingbird 321758
She definitely knows how to get your attention, up close and personal. LOL

You're exactly right, some will come right up to the door and tap their beaks on it. Flying like a hummingbird 395766
