A beautiful SILVER pigeon!

Just wanted to share this photo of a gorgeous young silver pigeon.



He was found wandering about in town and he's unharmed which is good. He's eating well and seems healthy but is in the Intensive Care Unit (which is just a fancy name for a heated shed! ) at my work for observation and quarantine, and I'm hoping to get him out into an aviary with other young pigeons soon.

Have any of you seen such a colouration in a pigeon before? He's supposed to be a feral pigeon but I'm thinking that he's got some fancy mix in him.

When I pick him up he's really soft and very chunky! I'm in love and want to keep him but if he's feral then he'll be released. If he seems fancy and not coping well with other ferals then we'll have to find him an aviary (in which case I'll most likely smuggle him into the aviary that has my Dora in it).

Oh, I wish I owned a house with some land and then I'd built a massive walk-in aviary for all the disabled and other non-releasable pigeons! My dream. One day.

I'm sure with his coloring, which by the way is gorgeous!!! , that he has some fancy in him.

Is he friendly? Maybe he escaped form someones loft?

I bet he would be very happy with your Dora!

He isn't friendly and he seems scared of us. He'll squeak when I pick him up but he doesn't struggle when I hold him. He doesn't have any rings on his legs, but that doesn't mean he hasn't escaped from someone's loft.

We're just going to wait and see what he turns into as he grows.

I agree! Very dark on top. I'll take some more photos as he grows. Can pigeons change colour? I seem to remember reading somewhere that after the first moult they may have a different colouring. Not sure if that's true or not.

I'm guessing he has some fancy feathers from somewhere.

I've seen squeakers develop patterns after their first moult, where the colouring had been evenly distributed before, but the colour itself doesn't change much. My guess is that this little darling may end up with a more defined red colour over silver, perhaps even faint bars.
