I heard that pigeons prefer to perch within defined limits: far enough from the ground to be free from predators and people, but close enough to see any food on the ground.
These photos, taken this afternoon, show exactly that.

These are all the pigeons that were perched on this building:

But it could also be that they are just socializing because I have observed the same here - at a much higher level!

There definitely is some social interaction going on. Maybe the one sticking his head through the bars is on food look-out duty...? Laughing
