| Here are shots of my newly completed Fly Cage adjoining my Bird Barn: Front view, looking north: The fly cage is 18'w x 32'l x 9'h. It is constructed of Douglas Fir logs cut off the property, as well as recycled Red Cedar siding (ground wall perimeter) that the neighbor was carting off to the dumps. There's a two-door system (construction on the right side) to prevent birds from escaping. The primary expense was the vinyl-coated fence netting (good for our damp climate) and the cables used to strengthen the edges, alleviating the need for excessive roof supports and interior posts, thus keeping the space open and airy. View looking NW: It shows the two-door entry, as well as the back of an outdoor hot/cold utility sink workstation (inside cage, on right). The sink was also saved from the dumps. Here's a partial shot of the yard with a few birds getting accustomed to their new digs. The Bird Barn lofts are in the back. Large doors are closed/locked at night to keep the birds safe. | |

| Good Lord!!! How beautiful is that? The design is wonderful. I just love the large flight pens. Would I love to have that in my backyard. Although, I don't know if it would fit in my back yard. The view is magnificent. What do you charge for rent? I can move in tomorrow. Seriously though, it really is beautiful. You must be very proud of it. And the birds have so much room. They must think they're in heaven. I'd be out there all the time. Thank you for sharing this with us. I'm glad my birds can't see it. They'd all be wanting to move to California. LOL. | |

| Thank you all for the positive comments. I'm really pleased how it turned out and glad that it's done. The best part is that my birds are starting to enjoy the fly pen. For the first several days, more feathers than birds were flying out the lofts. I guess it just takes time for them to relax. I do spend lots of time out there just watching them enjoy the direct sunlight and having more space to fly. I have about sixty birds. Most are fancy, some feral rescues from S.F., my previous home. Also, have eight from Mickaboo (five Kings, two homers, one feral) from several years ago. Most have names and all are treated equal from the beautiful Jacobins to the disabled feral. I will post more pictures once more birds start to enjoy the fly pen. | I'm glad you posted the blog becasue it really is lovely and I think members will enjoy it. Now, my friend, I'm sure we would love to see pictures of the guest cottage because you have got to know what some of us are dreaming about. We will gladly scrub the BirdBarn from top to bottom each day if we can live in the cottage. That would allow you a life more leisurely. :) There could be several of us, so bunkbeds would be appreciated. | |

| Just beautiful! Makes me want to pull up a chair in there and watch the birds and scenery! What is that ground cover? I like how you have a nice variety of perches with different heights. I'd really like to know how the fly pen was built if you find the time to tell, like how the cables were used to secure the wire. | |
