| I am so sad today . Our Peppi is missing since yesterday early afternoon. I am awfully worried. Peppi did not come home yesterday evening and did not appear this morning either. It is evening and he still is not back. I am so worried and I feel really sick today. I am crying because I am afraid that something has happened to him. Pina is waiting for him to come home too. She was on the balcony nearly the whole day already. If I only knew what has happened. My only hope is that he flew with the local flock somewhere else to discover his world. If this is the case I would be glad. But if not... While I was standing at the balustrade in the afternoon and was crying Angelo jumped on my shoulder as if he wanted to comfort me. Also Willy and Winnie came very near to my face and looked at me as if they wanted to tell me that I should not be so sad. Could these birds know what I was going through? Obviously they knew and tried to be near. This even made me cry more... And just now I have realized that Willy and Winnie have diappeared this evening too. What is happening here? My world is going in pieces... | |

| Just wait for him Petra, do not worry jet. It is possible that he has good reason for missing, not bad. | |

| I know how worrisome that can be, Petra. Our Frank was gone for three days and I thought my world had ended. i was heart sick. But he did return. I think sometimes they get to goofing around and lose track of time and place for a bit. Think positive, as will we, for Peppi's safe return. | |

| I've been noticing a lot of interaction lately between human-bonded feral pigeons and those in feral flocks, so a lot of the tamer ones aren't coming over every day now. It could well be what is happening to Peppi, and even Willy and Winnie. They'll be back, you'll see! I hope and pray for their safe return. | |

| Thank you all so much for your sympathies. Peppi is still not back. We decided to look around with the bycicle today and check whether we can find the local flock and see whether Peppi is there. I just cannot sit and wait and do nothing. It's awful.
Pina is very sad too. She hardly eats anything, sits alone on the balcony balustrade most of the time and obviously is waiting for Peppi to return too. Poor little girl and I cannot even console her.
At least Willy and Winnie returned this morning. They are totally in courtship mode again but what hit them yesterday evening I really don't know. Since they introduced their son Angelo in May to us they were sleeping here in pigeoncity every single night. So what happened yesterday evening I really don't know. Oh how I missed his croaky voice this morning. Now everything seems to be okay with them at least again. I wonder what is going to happen tonight...
Peppi where are you????

| Hi Petra, With reguard to Willy and Winnie, it may be that they are nesting elsewhere. And Peppi may have found himself a mate and just hasn't brought her home yet to meet the 'family'. I will continue to think, and send, positive thoughts he returns very soon. | |

| I hope he comes home soon, Petra, or that you spot him with another flock. he is a young bird and like all young ones he wants to explore.
What is the weather like there?

| What can I say - thank you again so very much. It helps to have your comments of consolation. We searched for the local flock today and found it. There were about 50 pijjies, Angelo, who is Willy's son among them, Blessy and Miranda and a couple of others who regularly come to our balcony but no Peppi.
So waiting for him continues. Pina was very sad today again and most of the time she was sitting alone on the balcony. She is still eating very few and apparently misses her Peppi as much as I do. She continues to come in every evening and a couple of times during the day but it is so sad - no cooing duet in the cardbox... Everything has become so still. I hate it...

| I'm sorry to hear that Peppi hasn't come back yet, and that you and Pina are missing him terribly. Don't give up, though! He's young and restless, he may have taken up with another hen. If that's the case, and they have a nest, you may not see him for ages. I really, really feel that he is ok. I hope he comes home soon to put your heart at rest. | |

| You guys are really sweet. Still no Peppi. At least Pina is eating again and she still comes inside in the evening to sleep on her board on the bookshelf. So I feel not quite as bad as before although I am still sad. If I only knew that he is doing well.... Today I had to chase all the visitors away (5) who wanted to sleep in pigeoncity again for the sake of Willy and Winnie, Pete and Emma. I did not feel well to be forced to do so but there was simply too much hassle and agitation on the balcony in the evening (sometimes the visitors fought about their roosting places) for our family members. That was probably the reason why Willy and Winnie left during the last 2 days in the evening to sleep somewhere else. They wanted to have their peace and not all that stress. Believe it or not but in the dark one of the visitors managed to sneek in again and he is now sleeping in the long basket, not disturbing anyone else - so this is okay. So in order to not lose them as well I had to take action. Well - it worked - this evening Willy sleeps on his place again and Winnie sits in the nest, probably working on an egg again. And Emma and Pete are happy to have their peace again too - sitting in the corner on the highest place in pigeoncity and cuddling with each other. At least I could notice that the overall condition of the 5 visitors improved considerably during the last days - their poops became much firmer. It was awful at the beginning, leaving a lot of totally wet droppings - the paper I had everywhere nearly swam away. At least they can come for feeding again and they will do. But I cannot allow them to sleep here any more in order to protect "our" pijjies. I wished I had a house with a big garden where I could feed and let all of them sleep in safety.... | |

| I'm glad the condition of the five pigeons improved a lot and I can understand why you had to make those decisions. The original family had a prior claim to the balcony space, and there isn't enough room for everybody, it would just lead to fighting. Do you suppose that competition for space might have made the male with less status (the younger one, Peppi) feel that he had to leave? Here's an idea: the next time you visit the local flock do it at a completely different time from the usual. My releases can go 'unseen' for months at a time; when I went to the park at different times from my usual and saw them, I realised I had been at the right place at the wrong time. Maybe it's something to do with nest-duty shifts.
Take heart. Miracles do happen.

| Charis, Teresa, Cindy - thank you so much for your continuous thoughts. It is helping a lot. Teresa, competition for space did not apply to Peppi as both, Pina and Peppi, did come into our livingroom still in order to sleep there on the closet. So they know quite well that there is always space for them. I am looking at different times for the flock already. There was a dead pigeon lying on the floor but I could not get nearer because there was some construction activities going on but it was definitely not Peppi. But this sight just did not help my feelings. Call me foolish but I just cannot stop crying from time to time. I just don't understand myself any more why these birds are keeping me in such an emotional rollercoaster. Tonight I already thought that Pina would stay somewhere else as well. She came quite late but was sitting on the sideboard of pigeoncity and was looking and looking. My calling for her apparently nerved Willy (her father) - so he decided to leave his place went down to where she sat and pushed her more or less to finally fly into the livingroom. He immediately went back to his sleeping place. How cool is that? | |

| Your emotions are not foolish, they are natural. Unfortunately they are harmful for your health, so keep them under control. What if Peppi is having good time with some attractive hen? And you are in the mean time crying your eyes off. There are not only bad things outside. Teenagers like to explore life and world around them. | |

Very good point plamenh. Years ago I was given 4 weaned King Pigeons. Two were red bars and two were grizzels. One of the grizzels, a male took off and was gone for days and then he came home. He stayed a while and left again only to repeat the same pattern. Finally, he brought with him a pretty blue feral hen. After a few days they left and I never saw him again. I did so worry about that bird. A half a year later, I did start to notice large blue grizzels in the park a mile or so away form my house. I think I know where they came from.

| Thank you Plamenh and Charis - I will try my best. I also don't want to neglect the others - they are as amiable as Peppi and Pina. It is only because these both are so very special to me because of all the incidents around them. | |

it is a wonderful expression of trust that a small creature that is so different to you should choose to sleep on your furniture no surprise you feel this worry, but try to think positive - let's hope you have another exciting development to write about soon - pigeonwriter wrote:
