| First~ I gotta say .. he is beautiful... Having said that! He would be MUCH much MUCH more beautiful about 300 miles away! This is who decided to camp out on our fence this morning.... GRRR he is SO maddening! He has killed so many songbirds now in OUR yard... that I just want him to go away!. .. Soooo..... I marched outside this morning with my hands up on my hips and had a very polite conversation with this handsome one... It went a little something like this: " " Now Look here ... This is NOT :For Shame: YOUR personal FAST food DRIVE through... and It's RUDE to chase away all the birds that visit here... so I'd appreciate it if you'd take your fancy feathers and your fuzzy bum......and LEAVE!"and OFF he went! LOL... now; I'm sure that my bright pink pajama bottoms and my wicked bed head HAD not ONE thing to do with him leaving .... But None the less he left!.. Now for my question: :Need some help Is there a way to keep them away??? I'm tired of burying these little birdies that he has been attacking and he is BRASH because he lets me get within 3 feet of him... At this point I'm glad all MY own birds reside upstairs IN the house! | |

| I got me one of those too. I suspect you will need to get along as best you can. I can't get mine to go away either. Plant some thorny bushes in your yard for the little birds to hide in. I think that saves many little birds that frequent my yard form being plucked off. | |

| Have you ever thought of feeding him? They do not hunt for pleasure, when not hungry they are pretty laizy birds. | |

| Minced meat, mixed with dog food and raw eggs you can add bit feathers to the mix. He will come and go not hang there all the time. Predators do not eat so often as seedeaters or herbivores. Drawback is that he will scare your birds when coming (he does it anyway) good think is that he will keep away mice, rats, cats, and other raptors. There is no really a way chasing him without hurting him somehow. Rather build some ballance and harmony with this guy. Good thing is that they do not flock and generally they are solitary birds. | |

| So Jenn, have you decided what to do about the hawk? Have you started feeding him? If you have a lot of brushy bushes around the feeding stations, that does give the small birds something to jump into. They usually get away safely. It's the pigeons that come to the yard that are in peril. Last winter they stopped coming altogether for a few months. I used to have a patient that would leave raw chicken scraps and chicken skin outside on a large tree stump. The hawks would swoop down and grab it. I always worry about the cardinals because they stand out so clearly. It is a dilemma. So I was wondering if you had tried anything yet? | |

| I realize they are a pigeon's predator, but I think they are a beautiful bird. Just not one I'd like to have sitting on the wall looking into my backyard or eying my aviary.
The only kind of hawk I've seen around here was a Sharp Shinned hawk. And he was sitting on the wall. | |

| Well... I guess the saying be careful what you wish for holds true in my case. I wished he would GO AWAY far away.... and I didn't realize the extent of my wish until last week. We were getting on the highway right by our house and there was a hawk ...just like him on the side of the road... we stopped and looked... to make sure it wasn't injuried... but no such luck...he had passed on. Ever since then, we have had no hawk visitor at all...and my feeding stations are buzzing with birds..... sigh..... I just feel bad..... | |
