| These birds were actually bred for us. Back when we helped thin out a loft in northern NH and took a few Frill/Homer mixed breeds .... I was simply smitten by the Frills. I just love their looks!! The guy said he'd breed some for us, which he did, but he had a "Bad Boy Bird" who kept destroying nests. He eventually had success and Zuri & Zanzibar were given life. <btw, "Zuri" means "beautiful" in Swahili and ""Zanzibar" is an island off of Africa> These birds came to us in October .... in full molt and looking pretty bedraggled so their "coming out" is only happening now. btw, Hoot was the "Bad Boy Bird" and, since we aren't planning to breed anyone (ok. Maybe 1 nest of Frills :Rolling eyes: ), he came along too and relieved the other fancier of a problem in his loft. So far, Hoot hasn't shown any signs of being a Nest Destroyer at Mistwald!! Zuri / Oriental Frill / hatched Spring '09 Zanzibar (nestmate to Zuri) Hoot / Old English (?) Owl male / hatched Spring '09 | |

| Beautiful! Is the only word that comes to mind when I look at the photos Are they going to live in the new loft too? I can't blame you for wanting to have at least one clutch | |

| Hi Robin. Oh yeah...they served their time in Rabbit Hutch Solitary and are now full members of Mistwald. It took them about a week to find their places among the others .... but they are now actively involved. Their behavior really does match their looks - - - they're always out and ready for conversation but they're much quieter ... almost coy. They don't wing beat like the others and only occasionally coo ... but they do sit on their perches, tilting their heads to the right & left when I talk to them. I'm beginning to think maybe they've learned their names Ends up they're gonna have another friend ..... TOMORROW! Got a call .... Never mind. I'll start another thread.... | |

How are they fitting in with the rest of your flock? They've actually settled in really well but, frankly, i think they miss the quiet of the ISOLATION HUTCH. They're really quiet birds. They neither talk much, nor do they flap around alot. The others do - - - in fact, the others are alot like dogs. If they're in side, they need to go out. If they're outside, they must come in. Because the windows stay open .... the other birds seem to be in constant motion .... while these 3 seem to sit back & watch. When they do go outside - - they stay out for awhile. They just seem all-around calmer. | |
