| I just received a new pigeon from a rehabber. She was treated for a large wound on the breast bone. It's all healed up, but she's very greasy from the topical medication that was used. Should I just offer her some baths or should I go ahead and bathe her with Dawn? She's a nervous little thing and I don't want to stress her but her feathers are all clumped together.. | |

| What kind of 'greasy' stuff did the rehabber use? Something like Neosporin ointment? I've read where using that on feathers tends to 'gum' them up and hinders their flying. Neosporin cream is OK though. I think I would opt to a nice bath, or two, or however many it takes, with Dawn. Please keep us posted on how things are coming along. | |

| I used Dawn on Fleece when he felt real grimey. It took a couple bathings to get the greasy feel and that smell to go away. He's all good now. | |

| I'm not sure what it was, some triple antibiotic ointment. I'll let you know how the bathing goes. I'll also let you know if she's a yellow or a white bird! | |

Do we get a before and after picture? That would make a great commercial for Dawn Oh Yeah, love it :bounce: How about coming up with a good advertising slogan then :) John

They never cease to surprise us do they? I know I sent this message a long time ago, but it isn't here. Must have selected preview instead of send.

| I love the picture, Jen. :YAHOO: Many thanks for sharing it with us. You will probably need to do a few baths to get all the grease out. | |

| I know I posted in this thread a little while ago and I donb't know what happened to my post. It will take a few more bathes to get poor little Greasy un-greasy. That really is a cute picture. You just have to name her Greasy.[ Kind of like my Wormy!] | |

| I'll have to wait a bit to do another bath. Poor thing got stressed, she's quite a nervous bird. She looks very young to me but she must be at least 6 months since she's laid eggs right? Funny thing is, she has shown no interest in sitting on the eggs, doesn't look at them at all. But every day when I take her out of her cage and put her in a cat carrier while cleaning, she makes a big stinky hen poop! I'm hoping she pairs up with McGee, a male I have who needs a wife badly. | |

| I'll bet these are her first eggs and so she may not understand. | |

| Well, after drying off completely that night, she didn't seem as greasy as I thought. Just on the keel, where the wound was. So I put her in my loft. She has access to baths every day out there. I'm still not sure if she's a white bird or a cream. She does have a few red feathers here and there. I've named her Clara. She hit it off right away with big, handsome Hans and they're now a pair and have a nest picked out! | |

| Sounds like she's a keeper. Quite the match make, Jen... you cleaned her up...gave her a lovely namer...and found her a mate. Great job! | |

BTW: I love your avatar. Thanks! Many people like to name their lofts so I named mine Lost and Found Loft. That's because most of my birds were lost domestic pigeons whose owners couldn't be found, or the owners didn't want them back. Here's a pic of Hans and Clara. Hans was lost on his first race last year and his owner was happy to let him stay here. The picture doesn't do him justice, he's so broad between the shoulders he looks like a foot ball player! He has this upside down pear shape going on. Here's a nice one of Hans. Clara had the first egg today and Hans stood guard over it all day long LOL.
