After I read about how sad the video is, I didn't dare to open it. Just by looking at the first picture, it made me feel very sad. When I scrolled down, I felt my heart jumped out of my body with happiness. You're an angel Teresa.

He's improving before my eyes!
He almost throws himself up in the air every 2 1/2 hours, demanding food. Soooo cute! I'm still using my daughter's computer now, but my new monitor will arrive in 2 days or less. When it does, I'll post the new pics!

Hi there, Angels! This is Xi-ri. Teresa is running around doing stuff, so I thought I'd do my own update.
Look how big I'm getting! I'm almost 2 inches long! Now, that's big, isn't it?
This was me after breakfast today, decidedly front-heavy! When my crop is almost full, it weighs more than the rest of me... but look at my left eye, all open now!
Might as well have a nap...
So Robin thinks I'm demanding?... She ain't seen nothin' yet... FEED ME!!!!
This was waking-up time today. I was sleepy at first, but not for long...
And this was breakfast! We both made a complete mess! I, at least, have an excuse, but Teresa was holding the camera with one hand, and laughing all the time, so she got me all dirty!
There... nice and comfy... but I think I'll take a peck at my nest and see if it tastes good...

Oh my goodness Teressa...that hardly looks like the little baby that I feared would not live to see the next day. He is just the cutest ever.

He's a heart-melter, alright!
The vet asked me to watch out for splayed legs. It doesn't look like it, when he stands, but on the second photo... it's just a possibility. What do you think?

The legs don't look splayed, but I was actually going to ask you about his feet. It looks like they are curled under.
And the videos are too cute. What a little character. And such a different baby than a couple days ago. Momma Teresa.

Xi-ri is doing really well! He's alert, bouncy, and has a terrific appetite! I whistle to him when I go into the room, and he replies with a flurry of peeps! And today he grabbed my finger with the toes in his left foot! He's starting to uncurl them! So my vet was right (again, lol) by saying to wait a few days and see. The toes in the right foot, which began curling later, haven't straightened out yet, but now I feel confident they will. I wonder if it was muscle atrophy caused by the long period of starvation. Someone who raises canaries suggested a little massage and physio routine to do before he eats (so as not to put the weight of a full crop on his legs). I'm having a go -- but it's really difficult to massage something so small!

I would like to, but the bottom line is that he isn't mine. My sister-in-law's aunt wanted a canary, and she'd been promised one of the offspring. I know the lady well, and she's really nice, so I've been trying to convince my sister-in-law to give Xi-ri to her when he's well, and old enough to fend for himself, and to replace any further eggs from his parents with fake ones.

Hi Teresa, I just wanted to ask how the baby canary is doing? I've really enjoyed seeing all your pigeons and kitties.

Well hi there, Chuck! It's wonderful to see you here!
Xi-ri actually woke me up today, before the alarm clock did! The first thing I heard this morning was peep-peep, so I whistled back and the peeps redoubled... So I jumped out of bed and did as I was told!
I had to interrupt this message because he peeped for his second lunch, which had followed his 3 breakfasts... He uncurled 2 toes of his right foot! It was only for a moment, but it's brilliant!
Give me a second to upload, and you'll be able to see the new pics almost in real time!

He's clambering everywhere now...
His toes are uncurling:
Here he is in action, so much so I feared he might try to jump out...
After eating. Feeding time is a lot less messy now, as we're both getting the hang of it. Using the 1 ml syringe is also better. In this video, I offered him another drop but baby was full... and getting sleepy.
