| today i was called because the school custodian has been keeping an eye out on a pigeon who couldnt fly and had been standing in a corner for the past 2 days. when i got there i could imediatly tell it was a squeaker. i call him Pedro and his crop had absolutely nothing in it and hes very ski ny. we found the nest it was too hard to get to but at a certain angle you can see into it. there was no other baby in it and i didnt want to place Pedro back in case his mother isnt coming back, and that would mean he would just sit there and slowly die.. so i brought him home and fed him some corn and sugar+salt water. he doesnt even flinch if you go up to grab him and seems much better than when i got him, he's in his new cage all cuddled in preening and trying to peck at seed (with no sucess) i dont quite like his poops ill post some pictures in a minute | |

| Pedro is adorable, but his poops are not... would it be possible for your vet to test him for coccidia? | |

| well i can just give her an appertex once and again in 10 days. otherwise i cant see the vet untill 1 or 2 weeks when i bring Penguin back for a bandage change. Also today when i picked pedro up to check him for hidden wounds he scambled up my shirt and cuddled to my neck and peeped. i immediately put him back in his cage because i absolutely dont need any pigeon getting attached to me at all, i dont even really want him comfortable around me because then i get attached and release is so much harder for when i have to do it. He started preening the door to his cage and peeping after i put him back. i think he's very sad and lonely and maybe a bit happy to be off of the cold hard ground, hungry and scared. i will put a mirror and little stuffed animal in for him, right now he is at the edge of his cage (the doors open so he can see my pigeons better) and is snoozing. at least he wont be sleeping in any more thunderstorms as a baby | |

| You could give him the med, and then have his poop checked later. Having his poop checked might be a good idea anyway, as there could be something else there. | |

| Poor little thing, he must be very happy to be out of the bad weather and to have nice food! Let us know if he improves with the Appertex. | |

| today she took her first bath and tried to pick up seed again. she understands feeding time and starts to get frustrated because i dont feed her the way her parents did :roll:Also, she likes it better when i leave the kennel door open so she can walk to the edge and sleep with her head out in the open. i gave her a tab of appertex today and i put a drop of multivitamin in her water when i give it to her. she wont eat or drink on her own yet though. | |

That's cute, AnnMarie. Hopefully she will begin eating and drinking on her own soon. Let us know how things are coming along.

| hmm her poops look the right color but they came out looking kind of stringy.. or like when u push something through a tube and like puddle around it.. i cant get a picture but do you know what this may be from? i tube fed her kaytee today because ive been out all day and only came back to feed her and i needed to be quick. (takes about 30-40 min to hand feed her peas) | |

| So long as the "tube" isn't all broken up like a dashed line, it's not too bad. It may just be because of the introduction to a new diet, and perhaps a high water intake. But I would give him a gentle antibiotic like Synulox/Clavamox, because there may be an inflammation of the intestinal mucosa.
If the poops no longer have bubbles in them after taking the Appertex, then the treatment is working and that confirms the main problem was coccidiosis.
