| Last month I was quite sick and in bed for over 2 weeks. During that time I didn't pay as much attention to the birds in the loft. When feeling better I went out there to give a good cleaning. I moved a plastic bin from a corner and found pinkness!    My first OOPs babies!!! Growly (mom) and Penny (dad) managed to slip these by me! Mom is a rescued homer who can't fly, dad is I believe a Tippler who was found starving and turned out to be hand tame. Penny got his name because I thought he was a hen for so long because he was so easy going.  As they grew I watched carefully, ready to bring them into the house if they got into trouble with any other birds out there. But their daddy took the best care of them! He was great and it was so sweet watching him watch over them. Mom was soon busy with a new nest, with fake eggs. Dad fed them and preened them, talked to them and chased other birds away. He followed them everywhere. They are still very much a close knit family. I would bring the babies into the house for some handling so they'd grown up tame. Here are lots of pictures and videos. | Thanks everyone! They are both quite grown up now and turned out to be 2 girls. The one with the faint reddish markings is the one who paired up with McGee and laid her first eggs not long ago. In color they take after dad but they have mom's size. Mom is quite a big girl at 454 grams. They also have dad's calm nature. | |
