I've been meaning to Thank You for posting the link to these most interesting dovecotes.
I found the following 'page' from the table of Contents. The first picture is absolutely beautiful. I never realized how many nest holes some of these dovecotes have.

Eventually, I plan on reading about every dovecote listed but will have to do that in segments. Lots of reading. That's too funny

That is beautiful and huge.
What a sight it must have been, filled with birds.

Many of the ancient Dove Cotes of the Middle East are still standing and still in use. I've been looking

for a picture that will allow me to post here but so far I haven't been able to find one that will allow

me to do so. In the picturesd I have seen, they consist of many small adobe looking holes, leading to

the inside. The holes may each lead to individual nesting sites. Some of these cotes are huge and

look like they are a natural part of the landscaping.

PostSubject: An old wall cote   ANCIENT DOVE COTES Icon_minitimeThu Feb 12, 2009 2:23 pm

This pigeon cote is built into the wall of a building in Cynthia's city, right off one of the main routes. No idea how old it is, but the nature of it makes it clear it was designed for the purpose. I took this photograph years ago, before I'd even met Cynthia, having wondered about the pigeons who seemed to head for 'something' after their exercise flights above the rooftops.
