| This is Bella. When I got to the park today a fellow animal lover was waiting for me, holding her. He had gone to the park to feed the pigeons and noticed that one had a severe string injury, so he caught her and waited for me. This was before removing the string and after And here she is after being released, when she landed on the building next door to get her bearings: | |

| She is a little beauty. Given the coloring of her toe, she might lose it. But I'm sure she will do fine. Stay safe sweet Bella Bless the gentleman who picked her up. A true he is. On behalf of Pij-n-Angels, please do thank him.

I agree, it's dead and dry, as is the first toe on her other foot. They will fall out of their own accord soon, but the other toes are fine and she will be able to stand and walk without any problem. - Quote :

On behalf of Pij-n-Angels, please do thank him. Oh, I did! He loves pigeons! He had helped me catch another string injury before, Paul, named after his rescuer. He was delighted to have a pigeon named after him!

| Baby Rambo has been exercising his wings today and preening, which made me optimistic. But he still doesn't run (walks fine, but when I approach him he either cowers or pecks) and he doesn't fly at all. I tried tossing him from just two feet above the floor, and he landed awkwardly, tried to balance and fell on his left side. (When he overbalances, it's always to the left.) :( Poor baby! After that I just let him sit on my lap for a while, and he looked very contented. He still gets his hot water bottle every night. | |

| Rambo is coming on well! He's still a bit croaky, but his appetite is much better, his poops continue good and he doesn't get all fluffed up any more. He still only eats small amounts at any one time, but he has several meals. (I can hear him eating right now, lol!) He is a little bigger than when I brought him home, and has almost doubled his weight to a whole 180g -- poor thing, he was so very small and SO thin, he must have had a very hard upbringing. I think our local ferals are probably a lot smaller than most, weighing in at 300g or so for a healthy bird. | |

| Rambo's latest pictures: Here he is looking a lot better! I keep upgrading his accessories, according to his preferences. For example, he prefers to forage for food on the ground, so I gave him a large, shallow seed bowl and, as you can see, he's got his very own sofa.

| I completely forgot to post my acknowledgment about your pigeon sofa. It's great. Any chance you could maybe get a snapshot of Rambo lounging on it? | |

Any chance you could maybe get a snapshot of Rambo lounging on it? I'll try, but he's a skittish customer! As soon as I approach him, he takes that stance with one foot (or both) on/in the seed bowl as if to say, 'It's my food and you ain't having it!!!' :That\\\'s so f

| Especially for Cindy:Hi there, Cindy! Teresa said you wanted a picture of me in my new sofa-bed -- well, here it is! The arrangement is not bad, but would you believe it... ...she expects me to make my own bed!

| Teresa you are star! After diapers for pigeons I thought that nothing would surprise me. Your furniture design for pigeons absolutely blew my mind though. It is really cool. | |

| Thank you both, but Rambo himself dictated the modifications: in this pictures you'll see that the 'seating area' of the sofa was replaced by a nest at night, because he wanted to snuggle up. And then he removed some of the layers of tissue paper from under him and wrapped himself in them! :That\\\'s so f So he gets the credit for the interior design! | |

| Oh well, it looks like Rambo might be a keeper.I took him to the vet today, as I was concerned about his neck, the difficulty he has eating and drinking, and his lack of balance. He was kept in for several hours for observation, tests and second opinions. The avian vet, Ana Luisa, is EVER so nice! Really caring and absolutely honest (a rare gift in a country where people will bluff from here to kingdom come to pretend that they know everything)! She confirmed that there was no obstruction in his neck or crop, but said his trachea formed an 'S' shape at rest. She said he was unable to hold his neck straight, hence the difficulty with swallowing. She said the supplementary food I've been offering is not only a good idea, but will likely have to continue indefinitely; either that or tube feeding (but I find that very scary). He has put on a little weight in the last week. I told her he'd been on Baytril and Flagyl, and she confirmed that at this point we could rule out canker, Salmonellosis and ear infection as possible causes for some of the symptoms. Which left, as the most probable causes, PMV or, much more likely, head trauma. If that's the case, and given that there's been no improvement in his balance for a month, this may be as good as it gets, and he's unreleasable. Which means two things: First, I'll have to buy another 'hospital' cage, as he has the right to keep that one, where he feels cosy and secure. Secondly, he will need a name that's more 'him' than Rambo, as he's too pretty and too vulnerable to be a Rambo, so I've renamed him Sammy Tarheel, as a tribute to a dear and much-missed . Welcome to the family, Sammy! PS. She prescribed Metacam and vitamin B. | |

| Poor Sammy. I'm very sorry. The vitamin B may help. I'm so delighted you have found some good resources. BTW...I sent you a PM and an email recently. | |
