| All my PMV birds do have these yellow urates and liquid poop in the time of stress. Calcium helps but does not mix well with antibiotics. Sorry if I missed this information in your posts, but I would switch to syringe feeding with honey mix to gain some weight and boost energy. I sent mail to Vitor and expecting his reply anytime. | |

I sent mail to Vitor and expecting his reply anytime. Thank goodness! And thank you, for once more putting my mind at ease. Do you think he vomitted the peas and corn? He hasn't been sick at all since I started tube-feeding him.

| Teresa, if this helps at all but when Willy became so sick his poops started out like this: the first pic is from midth of Nov the second pic a few days later - it's when his poops changed into some unhealthy dark green and yellow urates the 3rd pic is from the first week of Dec - colour changed to rather normal but there were still big puddles of urinates and you can see some vomitted peas the 4rth pic is from yesterday before - poops are still a bit too soft but completely normal colour and plentiful. That's when I started to put him on the corn pellets and stopped feeding the peas and the babyfood. I really hope that this time his digestion will stay okay. The vomiting has made me very nervous as well because he had lost so much weight. But the babyfood put him back on nearly normal. I give him 10 ml cinnamon tea with vitamins first thing in the morning now, half an hour later he gets the pellets. No honey at the moment to reduce the sugar level - don't want to risk a sour crop. Hope little Velvet is getting better soon. Oh - how I know your feeling Any luck on the Spartrix yet? If not I can send you some on Monday... | |

| The first poop picture Petra posted, is what Sammy's poop looked like too. Just the sight of it was quite alarming. | |

| Mixed newsVelvet is very sick, lethargic, and hasn't pooped for hours. Gave him warm electrolyte with lemon juice and massaged his crop, but unless he's done something in the nest, nothing's happened. I'm very worried about him. Sammy, on the other hand, is doing brilliantly: today he spoke his adult voice for the first time (and yes, he's a boy!) and he even pecked some seeds by himself -- right after his peas and corn, the little piggy! I shot two videos, one of Sammy nibbling the zip on my cardigan and my fingers, and another of him eating (some) seeds when I put him back in his cage: https://s333.photobucket.com/albums/m381/Skbllz/Pigeons/Sammy/?action=view¤t=DSCNB4114-Cute.flvhttps://s333.photobucket.com/albums/m381/Skbllz/Pigeons/Sammy/?action=view¤t=DSCNB4115-Piggy.flv | |

| Velvet is very weak and lethargic. I'm concentrating on keeping him adequately hydrated. I think the crop stasis happened because he was not hydrated enough -- given his polyuria condition because of the PMV. And, as practically every other explanation for this rapid decline has been crossed off the list, I decided to go with the Nystatin. | |

| One of the things that really works well with crop statis and gets everything movong again, is tubing slightly warmed applesauce for human babies...so there is no sugar added and then gently massaging the crop. Start with 5-8 ccs and nothing else until the crop empties, massaging as often as you can. I've never had it not work. | |

Thanks, Charis, I will do that tomorrow at the first sign of trouble, or at least I'll buy some, because I don't have any in the house right now. But Plamen's recipe (from Cara's thread) worked really well.

| I settles Velvet down half an hour ago, and put his cage right next to the heater for constant warmth, because his feet were starting to get cold as soon as the hot water bottle cooled a little. He's still awake and looks no worse, so I'm going to get some sleep, as I seem to have acquired a nasty cold. Merry is awake, too; he's been preening and he's looking great. | |

I hope you're not getting yourself too run down, Teresa. Yes, rest you need. Drink plenty of fluids and stay warm.

| Teresa, I was devastated on the bad turn of Velvet's health and hope very much that it will improve with your loving care again. I know your feelings from Willy's up and downs but I think this is the nature of this desease. It keeps you on constant alert and that is nerve wrecking. So now you have to take care for yourself because if you are getting really sick who would help Velvet and all your other little ones in need? Teresa - do you have access to Meditonsin? This is an old homeopathic paint (drops) which is really working miracles if you feel a cold coming. You have to take it immediately when you feel it coming. I have fought off 3 colds in the last few weeks with it. If your pharmacy does not carry it you can order it via the internet. Sending you How is Velvet today???? | |

| I'm typing with one hand, as I have a Velvet burrito in my left arm... He's looking a little better today , still not moving much but looking around him with some interest. He was able to drink a little water by himself and had his apple sauce and watered-down baby cereal. The crop is emptying -- mostly water, but then again his food is very watered down. Fingers crossed. Tube feeding him has been easier today than it was yesterday. Last night it was difficult positioning the tube, and I thought that it was because of his resistance, but I now think there was an obstruction at the base of the aesophagus or in the crop (or both) which may be decreasing. His mouth and throat look perfectly normal, but a little pale -- so frustrating when you can't see what the trouble is! I suppose the most likely causes for obstruction are canker or candida, so I'm hopeful. My burrito is looking at the screen. Poor love, I hope he gets well again. I'm recognising a lot of the symptoms that Firefly showed before she passed away. Well, Mr. Grim Reaper, you can take your scythe and shove it, I'm not letting go of this one! | |

| Thank you, Cindy, Charis, Louise and Petra, for your positive thoughts and kind words. I'm feeling pretty rough today, but I'm taking it easy. (Thank goodness for Sundays!) My daughter, the dog and two of the cats have caught it too!    We're definitely having take-away pizza tonight, and we're going to curl up with the new Harry Potter film. Petra, thanks for the tip about Meditonsin. I'll ask my pharmacist about it. Yesterday I made up your recipe for pigeon pellets, but it was a total failure. I don't know if the cornmeal is different from the one you use, or if the breadcrumbs were too fresh, or if the grinding was too coarse, because the consistency wasn't right for kneading and the pellets desintegrated very easily. I decided not to feed them to Velvet because I was worried crumbs might break off and go down his windpipe, but I offered it to the others. Disaster: Sammy and Hercules spat theirs, and Piper, after some brief consideration, dropped hers in the poo tray... I think I've just been voted worst pigeon chef of the year! Any thoughts? | |

| Teresa, so sorry that the recipe did not work. You can take any seed but you have to grind it quite fine - like semolina? do you know what I mean? It's difficult for me to find the right words. Breadcrumbs must be dry and grinded down - as you would use for preparing deep fried fish f.e. So I take one table spoon of grinded seeds (any mixture), one table spoon of corn semolina and about one table spoon of grinded breadcrumbs, add water or tea - let it sit some seconds so that the mixture is getting soaked and then work the stuff together so that you can form pellets. If they fall apart because it is too wet you need to add a bit more breadcrumbs. If it is too dry just add a tiny bit of oil to make it more supple and some more water. This should work. The consistency should be similar to the dough for bread or pizza. Btw- I added cinnamon tea and all the birds love to eat the pellets. They are even smacking :That\\\'s so f I am continuously sending healing thoughts for little Velvet. Don't lose hope, Teresa | |

| Velvet is critical. The improvement earlier was just the calm before the storm. Shortly after he brought everything up -- food and water, can't keep anything down. I grabbed him and tried to stop him inhaling vomit, but I think some went down into his lungs. He's unresponsive and gasping for breath. I'm losing him. | |
