| Teresa, I am so very, very sorry. I know you did everything you could. Little Velvet knew he was loved and died at peace in your arms. If one has to be lost, there is no better way than being held and loved by one who truly cares. Fly free and high little Velvet.........you were so dear and loved so much. Louise | |

| Thank you so much for your kind words. His passing leaves a big empty space in my heart and I will miss him. I will endeavour to learn what I can from this sad event so that there will be more happy endings in the future. | |

| Teresa, you did everything to help Velvet and most important, you gave love. During his life, you were his angel watching over him. Now his spirit will watch over you. | |

| First Firefly, now Velvet. Same symptoms, same untimely departure, and I have more questions than I have answers. I need to know what struck them so suddenly just when they seemed to be improving, so I phoned the vet's first thing this morning and asked for a full autopsy. They will phone when they have the results. | |

I know a necropsy is difficult (emotionally) to request, but hopefully it will help you to understand exactly what happened. Does your vet send out a printed copy of tests results performed on your birds? I don't mean to sound morbid, but if you're up to it could you let us know what the results are?

I don't know yet which tests they'll run and how they will present the results. The vet said the only place in Portugal where necropsies are done is a vet school lab in Viseu, and she was going to contact them after I left and arrange everything. And of course I'll share any information I get. The more we know the better we can help others.

| Teresa, I have just been trying to catch up with some posts and am devastated to read about sweet Velvet.
I am so sorry you're having such a difficult time with this unknown illness. I do hope you are able to get some answers that will help, heaven forbid should you have something similar occur again.
Rest peacefully little Velvet,
Janet | |

| For those who may not have received notice or the post icon isn't working (which seems to happen periodically ), I just wanted to mention that Teresa started a thread in the Rainbow Bridge forum remembering Velvet. Here's the link: goodbye-my-sweet-Velvet | |

| In most books and sources of information is written that biggest stress for the squeakers is weaning time. And yes this is usually the age of the most birds I found being grounded and showing symptoms of various diseases. What I noticed is that if the bird had health issue the most dangerous period is first moult. That’s why I usually carry with formula, vitamins, energy boosters way after weaning time and sometimes straight across the moulting period. Usually this helps, but sometime body just shuts down whatever I do. I guess that during this time their body is drained of all resources and even slight problem may have fatal outcome. Velvet was in really heavy moult, his immune system (already compromised) was not strong enough and for me, this was the main reason for all what happened. | |

| Teresa, this has me in tears reading about poor Velvet I am so sorry about what happened to him At least he got relief from the pain he was undergoing and you did all you could to save him. As Plamen said, you gave him love and care which is what he needed most. He is now happy and safe and is an angel watching over all of us It is really brave of you to ask for a necroscopy...i know how difficult it would be for you to do this...but let's hope by this another Velvet gets a happy life. I really hope this doesn't happen again . It is so heart breaking and tough to see our babies pass way like this I know we will have to see many sick pigeons in our life but hope there are more happy endings. Hugs to you and Velvet...fly free my angel | |

| It would take Sammy to make me laugh today, on a week like this! It appears he's still test-driving his adult voice, because the best he can manage is to sound like a baby crocodile! | |
