Hi All...........I believe most of the members here will know me by "Louise/lwerden" over on PT.

I am currently overwhelmed and in need of placing a few unreleasable birds in good, loving, forever homes. Please, if you have room, open your heart and home/aviary/loft to one or more of my needy rescues.

They are all ferals, rescued from my backyard flock.

#1- "Birdy".....This bird was a victim of a BB Gun wound. I found him downed with a large abcess on his shoulder, unable to fly. He had surgery from Dr. Hauck, was treated with antibotics. His wound has fully healed, and he is 100% completely healthy. He is fat, gentle and beautiful. He has permanent shoulder/muscle damage and is unable to fly. He manages to get about 2 feet off the ground and then becomes grounded. He would fit in any avairy/loft situation where he would be fed and protected from preditors. He would also make a wonderful mate for any female homebound/unreleasable. He is used to being indoors as I have housed him in a large dog carrier inside of my home for approximately 7 months.

#2- "Baby"...........Baby was a 2 week old that was brought to me in April by a local lady that found him/her in a stable where she cares for horses. She named the bird Baby Glydis. He/She is now an adolecent, but being hand raised has become totally human imprinted. Has absolutely no idea he/she is a pigeon, can not be released and has no fear of humans, dogs or any other preditor. Is used to being handled and hand feed. Does not know how to forrage for food on it's own and chances of survival if released would be ZERO. "Baby" would make a wonderful pet or I feel she/he could adapt to a protected aviary enviorment with other pigeons. Baby is 100% healthy.

#3 - Young Bird - Missing one eye. This very young bird I just found grounded in my backyard thismorning. Appears to be starving, and is eating on it's own. Half of it's tail feathers are missing, but it seems that one of it's eyes has been pecked out. I have cleaned the eye with saline water and applied neosporin. The bird is resting and I will care for it until it has gained weight and the eye injury heals. This now being a one eyed bird will also be deemed unreleasable and needs to be placed either in a home or an avairy/loft situation where it will be fed/watered and kept safe from preditors.

#4- This is an adult bird that was grounded and suffering from a severe case of canker. He/she is currently being treated with Flagyl and being hand fed. This bird seems to be getting better, and hopefully I will be able to release it back into my feral flock when it is fully recovered.

#5 & 6.... I still have my Jackie and Snowflake which are my house/pet birds. They have become a mated pair and I can not part with them. I will keep them with me as long as it is possible for me to keep my home.

My heart is breaking for all these birds, and I am doing my best to make sure they are all safe and cared for. I have experienced some awful life altering situations in the past year. Deaths of both my son and my husband. I am struggling financially, and emotionally I am a wreck. I am now also facing some health issues of my own I am feeling just so overwhelmed, I need your help in adopting some of these birds, so I will have some peace of mind that they will be safe, loved and cared for. It is totally impossibe for me to keep 6 birds inside of my house.

From the bottom of my heart I thank all of you for any assistance you can offer.

I will take some pictures of the birds and have Charis post them, hopefully tomorow.

Just to be clear...it sounds like you need a home for 3 birds.

The young bird that came from the stable when he was a baby and is now teenage stage...

The male Pigeons with the broken wing...

The squeaker you found this morning that is missing an eye.

Right?

Louise where are you located? And how soon do you need the birds out by? Do you ship?

We might be interested in the flightless pij & the one eyed baby if we can come up with the funds to ship them here.

Robin.

Above all THANK YOU CHARIS for aiding and assisting in the placement of these precious birds.

THANK YOU ROBIN.......for being willing to take in my "Birdy" who is unable to fly. He suffered so much from the gun shot. He is fully recovered, and the wing on that side doesn't even droop. He has permanent muscle damage in the shoulder where it attaches to the wing that prevents him from flying. He is absolutely a beautiful bird. He has gotten quite fat from being so well fed and not having much exercise, but he is a real sweetheart with a wonderful temperment. I hope he will be a perfect match for your bird. He is 100% healthy and has been treated by the vet atleast 5 times.

I do not have any good idea as to the sex of the two younger birds. "Baby Glydis" is now an adolecent and displays typical teenage behavior. My Jack did the same thing at that age and that's why I thought she was a male. She was renamed Jackie after she laid her first set of eggs. The other young bird with the missing eye, I couldn't even take a guess.........althoughthis bird is fully feathered it is still quite small and I haven't had enough time to evaluate any behavior patterns. I will be taking the little one with the eye injury to Dr. Hauck on either Mon. or Tues. for a proper evaluation. In the meantime the little one is eating well on it's own and resting comfortably in it's little basket.

I cannot thank everyone enough for the comfort you have given me knowing that these precious birds that I love so much will be going to loving and caring homes.

I will keep updating.

GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!!!!!

Louise, I am so sorry to hear your story.

You are always so ready to help and give advice yourself, thank goodness the wonderful folks here have been able to take some of the weight off your shoulders at this time.

Please look after yourself,

I would like to assist.

I will call Jedd's on Monday and order two boxes (1-single, 1-double) and have them sent to your home. I will contact Charis to get your information.

You have helped these birds when many others would have turned away. You deserve our help.

Louise...I've sent you an email with Robin's address and Deborah's too. You will need their contact information for the PO to tell you how much it will be to mail the birds. Once you have that information, we will raise the money to mail them.

I first I have to say that the 'Rescue Pigeon community' are wonderful, caring people who are ALWAYS willing to find a way to help. You people simply rock my world!

We have been giving a forever home to animals in need since 1993 when we officially opened our door.
We have accepted my different species of animals through the years but have never come across such a loving, caring & devoted group of people as this.
People who love pigeons are very special wonderful people... I swear you all are hiding wings because each & everyone of you must be an angel! And Charis is the head angel! Pigeon angel

Thank you all so much for getting together to ship Birdy here.

Thank you Louise for trusting us to give Birdy a wonderful forever home.

Yesterday I spent the day remodeling hens run & her inside room for Birdy & Pinkie. Today I will be putting the finishing touches for Birdy.
Louise I believe you mentioned that he can only fly 2 ft. to a perch? I want to place perches & nesting boxes are the correct height for him.
I will be letting both of them spend nice days in the loft & bring them in at night, until Birdy gets adjusted to loft living.

Louise if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me. Smile

This will be just heaven for Birdy, you're going to so much trouble to ensure everything is right, how much more can a bird ask for. I love it/them

Thank you for the kind words Janet Happy Here at the sanctuary we feel that this is the least we can do for poor Birdy since it was a human who took away his freedom Very sad

I hope he loves his new home & new friends. I'm desperately in need of help. 789920

How could he not, he's had so much love already. Louise has given Birdy her all.

I reckon if he knew what he's coming to, if he could, he'd fly there instead of waiting to be shipped.
I'm so pleased things are working out so well all round.

Hi Robin...............Again, I can not thank you enough for opening you heart and sanctuary to Birdy. I am sure he will be perfect for Pinkey, he has missed his mate so much.

He is able to reach about 2 feet off the ground (just barely) then becomes grounded. So the accommodations your are custom designing for him will be just perfect. I am sure he will be so happy to be back with pigeon friends.

Birdy was part of my backyard feral flock and a group that roosts and nests on my back roof. When one of my horrible neighbors shot him and I finally was able to catch him and get him the proper medical attention he needed, he had a mate and an adolecent baby that were his family. For months during his recovery and during his rehap period I would place him in his carrier on my patio table and his mate and baby would stay next to and on top of the cage with him all day. They were so vigilent and loyal, and my goal at the time was to rehab him enough and give him physical therapy so that he could be released and be reunited with his mate and roof family. After 7 months of trying and a final vet evaluation that he will propably never be able to fly again, I am so saddened that he can not be reunited with his family.

However, the next best thing has happened.........he will have Pinky and you and a new protected enviorment where he can be with other pigeons and live out his life enjoying the safety and protection of your sanctuary.

Thank you every so much for all that you are and will be doing for my Birdy

Hi again Robin.................I thought you and the other member would enjoy a picture of Birdy, However I can't figure out out to upload them to this site. I am emailing the pictures to Charis and she will post them for me later on today.

Birdy is a big boy, very healthy and hefty. He needs exercise out in the loft. Hopefully he will loose some weight chasing Pinky around....lol.

Regards,
Louise
