| I'm puzzled about a feral who's been coming over asking for food VERY late, when dusk is just becoming night. He lands on the veranda roof, comes to the edge, peeping in through the window of my study, and looks insistant until I feed him. By the time he takes off in the direction of the Work building (where Grumpy and a few others roost) it's almost pitch black. These photos were taken this evening. In the first one you can see him feeding: And here's the cheeky customer, after eating: Have you observed any ferals acting like that? All I can think of is that it may be one of my releases, hence they would know food is available here, and dinner time for pets (because of my working hours) is after dark. I'm wondering if it's Poppet. He used to land there, and he's a check, but I'm sure this one is paler -- unless the flash makes him look paler than he is...

| It's possible. The flash does make them appear lighter or paler. And the fact that he used to land there, and would know when you feed. They're smart. They learn that fast. | |

| If he's landing in the same place that Poppet did and seems to know the schedule, it very well could be him. He doesn't look to be under the weather, so if it is Poppet he's probably just coming around to visit and eat (of course). | |

| That's really interesting. Almost makes me wonder if he has just been relieved from nest duty and missed dinner. | |

| Either his nest partner relieves him late as Charis sugested or it may be single parent who is scared to leave nest during the day. I have several late commers who are not nesting closeby. | |

| In the past, I've had a few who stayed a little later than their curfew (dusk) and worried about them getting home before dark. | |

| It isn't Poppet! This pigeon is younger, leaner, with longer legs, and he has a lighter colouring. I don't know where he got the idea of coming after all the others have gone, but it works! CLEVER PIDGE! He's been coming every single day around 6 pm. I've called him Nightflier. | |

Best wishes, Yes, it is. I've seen him fly back (being in the city centre it's never completely dark, not for us humans) and he roosts on top of a tall building about 100 m away.

| He's been coming round everyday except today. At 6.15 pm, his usual visiting time, it had suddenly got very windy and dark, and I think he may have retired earlier, predicting stormy weather -- which came soon after! | |

I'm sorry he missed his supper, but he was a wise bird not to venture out in stormy weather.

Aha, you're psychic! He came round today, but he hadn't come the two previous days. Judging by what the other pigeons are doing, he must be gathering nesting materials.

| Nightflier is still coming around almost every evening! And sometimes with a squeaker in tow! Now that the days are longer, he's been coming round at around 9 pm. He insists on coming after dusk, but then again, living in the city centre, it never gets totally dark outside. Can you spot him? | |

| Thanks for the update on Nightflier, Teresa. It must be because it doesn't get totally dark in the city centre that he comes around when it actually should be totally dark. Or maybe he just thinks he's a ' night' owl. Yep! I spotted him. | |

| It's about 2 AM there isn't it Teresa? Those two should be snoozin' away in their nests. For that matter, so should you!
