I miss Virgil SO much already!!! I love that bird!
He should be landing in Newark in 37 minutes. His flight is early, which means he has longer to sit and wait in the pet holding area. Hopefully, it won't be as frightening as the plane ride.

He'll be alright, Faon ... he has his little hedge hog to keep him company and so he's not by himself. I could tell how much he loves that hedge hog. I bet Jay is on needles and pins too.

Virgil's plane has landed!! Yay!
What a relief, the first leg is over!
I just called the Continental Petsafe Hot line to see if maybe...somehow...someone could just take a peak inside his Kennel and let me know that he was OK. The representative on the phone first said no; If something had gone wrong they would be notified within 10 minutes. But then he softened up and called over to Newark's Cargo holding area. He said all is well Virgil... is fine!!!

I'm so glad to hear things are going well.

You're right of course Charis. I'm a wreck! I went online to trace his flight also. He should leave Newark about 9:30 and arrive in Providence at about 10:39. We should be leaving here about 9:00pm, and it's about maybe a 40 minute ride. We'll be there probably an hour before Virgil is scheduled to arrive. I'm so nervous I can't even eat. So instead of going to dinner in Providence, we may just bring a light snack with us. I'll call both Charis and Faon once we have picked him up and have him in our possession. I have his cage all ready complete with mirror, and plant saucer like Faon had for him, just have to put the nesting materials in. I want it to feel like home. We'll even put his little hedgehog to the side of his nest at night for him like she does. And he can enjoy living room time together with Scooter, as they will get along fine. I can hardly wait. Will let you all know about it.

Been watching this thread all day..............I'm on pins and needles as well.

Waiting to hear that Virgil has arrived safe and sound.

Sure sounds like Continental is the way to go for shipping. Loved that they called and checked on Virgil in the holding area.

Phew...had a little scare.
The airline gave me a tracking number to track Virgil's whereabouts. so far was so good...The plane took off 25 minutes ago and when I checked (and checked and checked) it was not reporting him on the flight. I had to call the cargo pet hot line twice before they could confirm that YES, indeed, he had made the flight!!!
He is almost there. He arrives 10:39 eastern time and I am waiting anxiously for Jay's call.
I hope Virgil settles in okay and even though everything is new and unfamiliar, I hope he can find some comfort in the sounds of the other pigeons (and his hedgehog )

Won't be long now. We should have a call by 8pm our time.

I think it's great that they have a Pet Hot Line that you can call.

I have been really please with Continental so far. The hotline is great, specific for their Petsafe program. All of the representatives I have spoken with have been really kind and helpful. I know a few of the airlines have some sort of animal transport service...It really depends on where you are transporting. It only cost $83.00 to send Virgil, which in my mind is a pittance for his safety and my peace of mind.

Virgil is in Providence! The plane landed 12 minutes early! We should be hearing from Jay any time now.

Yippeeee! Can't wait to hear an update. I think we are all waiting with bated breath...heh!

Jay just called... she just picked up Virgil and he is OK! What a little trouper. She said he was hiding behind his hedgehog... how adorable is that?! I am so overwhelmed with emotion right now. I am so very happy for him and his new life, but it is a little bittersweet...because I miss him so much. Thank you to everyone who has been following this thread, for all of you encouraging words and positive thoughts. And thanks Jay for giving Virgil a forever home (and driving to Providence to pick him up so late!!!) Virgil is a special little pigeon and I know he is going to have the time of his life! I can't wait for the updates!!
