NEW LITTLE RESCUE WITH BROKEN WING

I went into the bird room around 9:00PM to make sure everyone was tucked in and safe for the night.

When I checked on Little Feathered Feet, to my surprise I saw her bandgage and wing was on the floor of the cage. The damaged part of the wing had fallen off all by itself. She was busy preening the remaining feathers on that wing.

I am sooooooooo happy......

This has turned out so well, and no surgery was required. The remaining wing looks fine, although the feathers are a bit shabby looking from being wrapped for so long. I'm sure they will go back to normal as she preens and new feathers come in with the next molt.

I will take her to Dr. Hauck during the week for a final check-up.

I have sent some pictures to Charis......it is late here, I hope she will be able to post them in the morning.

Louise...it's wonderful...so much better than a surgical removal. He must feel so much better.

I'm so glad to hear the end of the wing came out all by itself and she's doing well! In fact she looks quite proud of herself in the picture!

Robin........The picture that looks like a big piece of the wing is missing is deceiving. That is where the bandage was and the feathers are all squished together in that area. The wing actually looks much better today as she preens and the feathers loosen up.

I'll post a new picture in a day or so. She needs to have a bath.........she hasn't been able to bathe in 2 months while the bandage was on. I'm sure that will make the feathers look better and I'm sure she will enjoy a bath

Little Feathered Feet is doing sooooooooo good

The feathers on the wing are looking much better. Poor baby wants to fly so badly. It's so sad to watch her keep trying and trying. She only manages to get about 1 foot off the ground.

I have an appointment with Dr. Hauck at 3:30PM today for her follow up visit.

Little Feathered Feet was seen by Dr. Hauck today.

He gave her a 100% clean bill of health.

He feels her wing has healed beautifully, and he thinks she will regrow some additional feathers.

She has bottomed out at 260gms, which Dr. Hauck feels is more than sufficient based on her size and body structure...........She is a chubby, precious little thing.

I gave her a bath this morning and the wing looks so much better.

I've been really preoccupied with my other rescue who is critical and haven't had time to take a new picture. I'll do so, I promise, as so as I can.

She won't be so disappointed at not being able to fly when she's become accustomed to the Chez Louise kind of lifestyle...
