| I can tell she doesn't feel well. Dev...do you have any enrofloxin [baytril] left?
I'm concerned about the yellow, which should be white, may be an indication of an infection, affecting the liver. It also could be internal canker. Whatever it is...I think it is very treatable. Is there odor to the poop?

| Bless Parthu's little birdie heart. And bless you as well, Dev. Actually his droppings don't look all that bad, given what he's gone through. I hope all goes well with his recovery. | |

| Chairs,
I have Enrofloxacin medicines with me. Do you think we should start with it ? The tablets are 150 mg each. Let me know what do you feel. The poops had some amount of odor, but it has reduced gradually.

| Charis,
Yes, there is little amount of odor remaining even now. I do not have more Spartix tablets with me :( They are all used now. Can I use metronodizole ?

| Yes you can use metronidazole, Dev. Do you have a way to weigh the bird? If not, I would go with a lower dose of 25-30mg, once a day. Louise may have different insight on the dosage, as she as treated many birds for canker and had the advise of Dr Hauck. | |

| Charis, I got the weighing scale. I will find out the weight and let you know. It would be great if we can get to hear Louise's opinion too I was checking paarthu's poops today and there was no odor in it, I feel it has completely gone now. | |

| Dev............You are doing a wonderful job with this little one. Dr. Hauck's dosage for Flagyl/Metronidzole is 30 to 60 mg per day based on weight. The lower range being for young birds and the higher dose to be for a bird of 300gms or more. In very servere or highly resistant cases of canker Dr. Hauck has tended to be more aggressive and he has instructed me give the dosage twice a day. The doses were to be administered 12 hours apart. In these severe/resistant cases Dr. Hauck has always added a second antibotic Cipro/Baytril as they work well with the Flagyl. Once you have given us a weight on the bird I will give you my opinion what dosage I would use in this case. Louise | |

| Dev.........I will be off-line for the next 5/6 hours. I'll get back with you as soon as I return home.
In the meantime I would give the bird 25mg immediately to start.

I will keep you guys updated. Dev...I would give him metronidazole for at least another 5 days. It would help to know his weight so the dose is appropriate. I'm glad he is drinking and showing interest in eating on his own. That certainly is a good sign.

| Dev...........for a bird of approx. 160gms I would stay in the 25/30 mg range. Since he aleady had 3 days of Spartrix, I would continue for an additional 7 days for a total of 10 day treatment.
Please keep us posted and new pictures when you have a chance.

| Dev...........I have had a communication from Charis. She is concerned that 25mg might be a bit too much for the baby.
To be on the safe side cut the dosage back to no more than 20mg per day.
Please let us know how the bird is doing.

| Sure Luise, will give it only 20mg from today. Yesterday's dosage was around 25mg but will reduce it a bit from today. Bird is continuing to be the same. I tried looking for iodine solution but it does not seem to be available here | |
