They're quite taken with Mr. Attitude at the vet's! And they really like his name; they said they've never come across a pet called Hercules before.
Apparently they've taken his photo, so when they update the site's photo gallery, he'll be on it, representing Pigeonhood... How's that for a feral?!

Today's check-up:

There's good news, and not-so-good news.
The good news is that the flesh wounds are doing admirably well, no infection, new skin forming. They changed his dressing and cast.
The not-so-good news is that the bones haven't knitted yet. I saw the new X-ray and there's still a 2mm gap between the ends of the two parts of the bone. You can see new bone tissue formed, so it must have been quite a gap to begin with. The surgeon did say there was a lot of necrotic bone tissue and sharp, jagged ends that had to be filed down, so it's really quite an ambitious project.
The prognosis is very good, but it will probably be another 3 weeks of immobilisation. The antibiotic course was due to finish today, but I was told to continue it for at least another week.
When I picked him up he was hungry, tired, and fed up of being handled and moved about. When we got home he had devoured a hearty meal, had a drink and was delighted to have his 'sausage' cushion back. Within seconds, he'd gone over to the end of the basket and fallen asleep...

Oh Teresa - Hercules is really an exceptional bird. I love the pictures and I really really really wish him to heal completely and 100% again. What an ordeal this brave little guy had been through.

He was a bit quiet and sleepy this morning. I guess he's sore from having his dressing changed yesterday, poor thing! But towards the end of taking his medication, when he must have thought, 'Surely that's enough of that gloopy mess for now!', the wing started to wiggle! So long as he stays feisty I know he's alright!

He must have felt contaminated by his visit to the vets, because he tried his best to have a bath in his drinking water. :That\\\'s so f You wouldn't believe the mess he made!

There have been less wing twitches as Hercules gets used to his daily dose of meds, but... when he's eating, he won't put up with any bothersome humans in the vicinity!
Here he's pecking seed while all the time twitching his left wing!
