Sometimes it is nice to see a lead bird dethroned if he is a bully, but not if the dethroner is going to bully back. Hope they all work it out peaceably. I put mine in time out when they bully each other. It works great!
I don't like bullying either & NEVER let it get out of hand. Maybe you misunderstood me... Birdy is just getting pushy with the feral, who had been intimidating Birdy ever since he was introduced into the loft. I figure Birdy has to show the feral that he won't be intimidated anymore and as long as they aren't getting down & dirty or keeping the other away from the food or water I'm going to let them work it out.

| Well I guess it is a good thing that he is secure enough to stand up for himself. And to make it clear that he will not be picked on. Guess it means he is feeling at home. he's moved up in the pecking order. | |

| I know Birdy is just aserting himself now that he feels secure and content in his new home  He was always a very well behaved bird with me. Actually he was the only one of my rescues that when I put my hand in his cage he NEVER pecked or attacked me. He is really a very sweet little guy. If he becomes to be a problem I would be very, very surprised. Please keep me posted Robin.........I'm starting to worry about him now. Louise | |

Louise, I don't think he is going to be a problem. If that other bird was picking on him before, then it's good that he finally asserted himself. You like to know that he can take care of himself. I'm sure they'll calm down when the other realizes that Birdy won't put up with his nonsense. It's probably a good thing. I really wouldn't worry. Louise stop worrying. NiteOwl is correct with what she said  Always know that I would never let anything happen to any of the animals here. We watch them very closely if we even suspect any problems. We can even set up our close circuit camera to watch how they behave when we aren't there... you would be surprised how nice they act when they know you're watching! Each loft section has its own ranking system starting with an alpha cock & hen. Birdy isn't being mean he's just decided that he doesn't want to be low man anymore  Like I said its only pushing each other around, NO seroius fighting is going on and if this should happen I will step in. Have no fear with 30 pigeons I know what to watch for & how to handle bully cocks.

| His behavior is certainly understandable since he's standing up to the pigeon that bullied him. I agree with Robin and Jay Louise, it's all good. | |

| Louise, be happy that he is standing up to the other bird. He is feeling more secure in his new home. He is finding his place and fitting in. Robin, it's great that you have those cameras set up. I have my loft built off the back of the house, and can watch them through the window undetected. And you are so right in that they act different if they know you are there. I enjoy spying on them. They're fun to watch, and I learn so much more about the personalities of each individual bird. They have absolutely no idea of just how well I know them. LOL. | |

| Robin...........I know you are always there to step in if anything should get out of hand. I'm just so happy that Birdy has settled in so well and has gained enough confidence to assert himself. I would love a new of him, when you get a chance. Louise | |

Update please when you have a chance.
Louise All is calm in Birdy's loft. I told you not to worry. The little flock has settled down & the two cocks ( Birdy & Queenie) have decided that Birdy is top cock. He has taken to strutting around like he owns the joint! Birdy is also busy collecting sticks, feathers & anything he can get through the door for his and Gretas new nest. I have been trying to get photos but everytime I get the camera they all scatter! Guess I'll just have to make the time to sit & wait camera ready.

| When you see a great shot, you never have the camera. You almost have to bring it around with you everywhere you go. And I have at times. LOL. Nice to know it's going well with Birdy. | |

| That's a cute video, Robin. Thanks for sharing it with us. If I may make a suggestion. I would overlay, or replace, the existing wire with hardware cloth as soon as possible. A small paredator could easily get in where the pijjies are. | |

And rats and mice ARE out during the day. Thanks for the video. Birdy and his mate are cute together.

[quote="NiteOwl" I agree with Cindy. And rats and mice ARE out during the day. [/quote] I do know about vermin and as the funds allow we are attaching hardware cloth to the existing wire on the flight so no need to worry about Birdy or the other pigeons. Even though we have never had a problem with either mice nor rats, I know they can come at anytime.
