| We will be 'inheriting' a black & white fantail tomorrow. At least 2 of the Shelters here in NH are now giving out our names as a "pigeon resource' (3 calls in 2 days....none before that ). 1 of the callers was a woman who's husband found this bird in a Manchester, NH parking lot about 1 month ago and was able to pick it up and bring it home. They have a retired chicken coop that she's been keeping this bird in but it's about to get real cold up here and she's concerned about (1) the bird being alone and (2) the bird being alone in a big coop and not being able to stay warm. She was VERY happy when we said we'd be happy to give it a home ..... so, she's delivering it tomorrow. We'll put him in Rabbit Hutch Solitary for several weeks and be sure he's healthy and carrying good weight. Besides, it'll be easier to hunt for his owner if we have him here and she was clearly looking for some help. It's not what was planned but ... hey ... the bird needs a home and we can put 1 or 2 more birds in the loft without overcrowding ... If we can't find an owner ..... he can stay here. I'll post a photo soon (haven't even seen him yet) but thought I'd get this out here just in case someone is still looking for him and finds Pigeon Angels. | |

Nah. I just can't stand the thought of this poor thing .... clearly bred by a human .... suffering (presumably BECAUSE of that human)!! Besides, now that the Aviary is built, if we have to, we can wrap a tarp around it and adopt ANY we get calls about (yeah - I see a Loft Addition coming in the future  ) | |

| Really nice of you to adopt this pigeon Judy I think this is a case that most rehabbers face...you really don't have the heart to say no to a homeless bird or animal that comes your way and needs your love. I am glad you can accommodate a few more birds Judy... at least a few others will get a lovely home | |

| Just got off the phone with the woman who has the bird. She won't be coming today ... but has rescheduled for late Thurs. afternoon. Seems her dog needs to go to the vet, vet is in this area (she lives about 45 mins away) and she wants to combine trips .... vet can't see dog 'till Thurs. Soooo ... Thursday it is. Of course, now the chipmunks who have moved into the garage can enjoy the pigeon food & water I put in the Isolation Hutch this morning! | |

| OK OK I wanted to give the poor guy a bit of time before I started flashing fireballs in his face But you are So....here he is!!!! We were simply blown away by how beautiful he is!!!! He's clearly an INDIAN Fantail. So, it only seems right that his name is TAJ. Can anyone give an educated guess on age? There is a faint yellow ring around his otherwise very dark eyes and, as you can see, a bit of cere on his beak. Any ideas? Even an "older than ____"? | |

| Thank's for satisfying our curiosity, Judi. TAJ is beautiful and worth the wait to see. I couldn't give an educated, or even a random, guess on the age.

| Thanks for asking, Teresa. Taj is doing great!! In fact, he seems to have taken over leadership ... or, at least, KINGship of the loft. He prefers to be in the outside aviary and spends most of the day flapping those big wings and STRUTTING up & down & up & down & up & down a 2x4 set out as a long perch for *everyone* to share (no one else has a chance to use it!!). He doesn't have a single mate - yet - but I expect the strutting, flapping, and CONSTANT voice is his way of working VERY hard to remedy that. We're really hoping he chooses one of the Oriental Frills (and that SHE accepts him). If that happens we may just have to let the eggs develop. | |

| Can't believe that a guy as beautiful as that one hasn't found a mate yet. How many free females do you have? | |
