| Can someone please ease my mind.... ( literally I am driving Myself...crazy) Here is a picture of Daylen. He is the pigeon I just recieved about a week and a half ago. He is a squeaker feral...unreleasable-human imprinted. I have wormed, treated with...spartrix (1 tab) and Appertex for Cocci. (1 tab) But what is concerning me is that lump in the picure. Is that suppossed to be there... It just seems "not right" to me, for some reason! AM I paranoid? Or does it look like I need to worry some more. This little one will only eat very very little on his own... so I am supplmenting with Kaytee with wholegrain baby food and some honey mixed in. Today, I have noticed he is moving away from the heat lamp, but seems to just not be feeling right. Here is the picture: (PLEASE- Let me know your thoughts[url= ] | |

| Right where the area is pointing it looks like a indentation, rather than a lump. Or are you talking about the entire crop area? By feel, how big does the lump seem to be? And what does it feel like? e.g., squishy, hard, fluid like. | |

It's hard --- The size It's really that whole little area...where I pointed to, Not just where the feathers are indented.... None of my others pijies stick out that way. Maybe it's just he is just SO thin ... I'm probably worrying over nothing I'm sure... But I just wanted to ask and be sure, then be sorry later....

Was the lump there when you got him? Given that he was very thin upon arrival and that he isn't eating much and has a hard lump in the crop area, I certainly wouldn't r/o canker. I think I would be inclined to give a complete course of Spartrix (3-5 days). - AZJourney wrote:

* I'm probably worrying over nothing I'm sure... But I just wanted to ask and be sure, then be sorry later.... * Not necessarily. If there's a hard lump in the crop area then something is amiss. Whatever it might be.

| Hi Jenn, If your pigeon is too thin it is normal his neck and keel bones to stick out. Just give him some time, nutrition and he will recover. I have two birds in same condition (skin and bones). You can see from the picture what usually sticks out on them. | |

| Thanks guys! That photo helps to navagiate where things are. Thanks! And, so I am guessing it is just his very skinny body sticking out. Guess we will keep on; keeping on! Also... few more questions; He will pick at his seeds....but his crop never gets full, when he feeds himself. Q:Should he be eating on his own at this age? Q:also, Should I then feed peas in addition to what he eats? He will pick at the seeds throughout the day. OR----- Q:In order to get some weight on him should I just take his seeds away and only hand feed 3x's a day? | |

| When I have bird in such condition, I syringe feed her 20 ml formula with honey twice a day. (Just to be on the safe side that bird gets enough food and energy.) I always leave seeds and water as they need to be able to eat if they want some more. For me this works best and bird recovers quicker. | |
